The National Association of Secondary School Principals has named Meghan Redmond, assistant principal of Chief Ivan Blunka School in New Stuyahok, as the 2019 National Assistant Principal of the Year. Redmond is in her fourth year as assistant principal at Chief Ivan Blunka School in New Stuyahok, a K–12 school consisting of 134 students who can only access the school by boat or plane. Because the remote nature of the school limits opportunities for exposure to various careers and other robust experiences, Redmond leads the school’s quarterly exploration weeks that allow students to focus on one or two courses that help them explore careers and interests — with some exploration weeks leading to industry-based certifications. Redmond also started the Small Schools Matter group to draw attention to the needs of remote schools and recently brought students to the state capital of Juneau to advocate for funding. Driven to provide a culturally relevant education for the nearly 100 percent Yup’ik Eskimo Alaska Native population, Redmond incorporates the native language into the school. The school’s administrative team focuses on valuing teacher talent in order to retain it, evidenced by a 100 percent staff retention rate for the current school year. Redmond holds a bachelor’s degree in middle childhood and early adolescence education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Alaska Anchorage. She also serves on the executive board for the Alaska Association of Secondary School Principals. Northrim Bank announced the promotion of a variety of employees throughout the Bank: Mark Edwards, EVP-chief credit officer and bank economist; Kari Skinner, SVP-marketing and communications director; Marc Guevarra, VP-commercial loan officer; Tammy Kosa, VP-regional market manager; Gerlie Monta-Guevarra, VP-branch manager; Aili Peyton-Jalbert, VP-commercial cash management officer; Josie Thayer, VP-commercial cash management officer; Bill Simpson, VP-collections supervisor; Katie Bender, AVP-community and public relations manager. Edwards has been with Northrim Bank since 2007. Prior to that, he was the director of the Office of Economic Development for the State of Alaska and economist for the Department of Revenue. Edwards has an MBA from Alaska Pacific University and a master’s degree from Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management. He received Northrim Bank’s President’s award in 2010. Skinner joined Northrim in 2017 with more than 15 years of sales and marketing experience, most recently with Simon Property Group as a director of Marketing and Business Development. She holds an MBA from the University of Utah. Guevarra has worked in banking since 2001. He joined Alaska Pacific Bank in 2007 and has been with Northrim since the merger in 2014. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Alaska Anchorage. Kosa has been with Northrim for 15 years. She is a graduate of the University of Alaska Fairbanks and has been awarded the Northrim Way Award, Customer First Service Award, and President’s Award. Monta-Guevarra started her career in banking in 2000. She has started at Alaska Pacific Bank in 2005 and has been with Northrim since the merger in 2014. Peyton-Jalbert joined Northrim Bank in 2018 with eight years of banking experience. She holds a master’s degree in communication from the University of Hawaii. Thayer has been with Northrim for more than 13 years and has 20 years of cash management experience. She holds a bachelor’s degree in international business from the University of Alaska. Simpson joined Northrim in 2007 as part of the bank’s acquisition of Alaska First Bank & Trust. He has more than 30 years of experience in banking. Simpson holds a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in finance from Boise State University. Bender has been with Northrim since 2013 and has more than 15 years of experience in communications and public relations. She holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Alaska Anchorage. Ahtna Inc. announced several new hires and achievements within its subsidiaries. Vivian Tokar, program manager with Ahtna Environmental Inc., has earned the designation of Project Management Professional. This certification, through the Project Management Institute, requires 4,500 hours of leading and directing projects, a four-year degree, 35 hours of project management education, as well as passing a rigorous exam. Tokar has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and has managed environmental remediation projects across Alaska since joining Ahtna in 2015. Ahtna Engineering Services LLC promoted Valeriya Brand, MBA, CPCM, to the position of business manager. Brand has more than 12 years of experience providing financial and contract management including financial tracking and budget management. Brand earned a Certified Professional Contracts Management credential from the National Contract Management Association in 2016 and has an MBA; and bachelor’s degrees in accounting and management. Prior to her promotion, Brand served as the firm’s contracts manager. AEI has recently hired Acery “Ace” Garcia, as one of its safety and QA/QC managers. Garcia has more than 25 years of experience working with the government, 15 years overseas. His focus primarily involves Military Munitions Response Program and environmental projects with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Garcia holds an associate’s degree in occupational safety and health technology and is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree. AEI’s Anchorage office hired Toni Endsley as project controls manager. Endsley has more than 15 years of experience in federal contracting performing project/program, operations, and contract management; financial analysis and budgeting; safety and hazardous material handling and transportation compliance; and marketing/business development. She holds numerous certifications including USACE CQM, HAZWOPER, and multiple various OSHA certifications. Endsley has an associate’s degree with coursework tailored towards business and finance. AES also welcomed Autumn Gould as a geologist working from the firm’s Anchorage office. Gould has more than four years of experience as a geologist in the oil and gas industry in addition to environmental remediation. She has worked on environmental projects throughout Alaska including strategic project implementation plans, preliminary assessments, site inspections, remedial investigations, feasibility studies, site characterizations, and remedial action projects. Gould has a bachelor’s degree in geology. Alaska Gov. Michael J. Dunleavy accepted the resignation of Public Defender Quinlan Steiner effective immediately and named Beth Goldstein of Anchorage as Acting Public Defender. Goldstein has more than 25 years of business management and legal experience. Goldstein’s public service consists of eight years as an assistant federal public defender in the Office of the Federal Public Defender in Ohio, and most recently 13 years in the Alaska Office of Public Advocacy as an assistant public advocate, deputy director, and supervisor. She received her bachelor’s degree in genetic engineering, biology, chemistry, and political science at Cedar Crest College and her juris doctorate from University of New Hampshire School of Law. With experience in both the private and public sector, her background includes regulations, administrative law, contract negotiations, fraud investigations, and legal management. Saltchuk has named David Karp as senior vice president, managing director for Alaska. Over the years Saltchuk’s family of independently operated companies in Alaska has grown to include Northern Air Cargo, Northern Air Maintenance Services, Cook Inlet Tug & Barge, TOTE Maritime Alaska, Delta Western Petroleum, Inlet Energy, Northern Oilfield Services and Carlile. Karp has been in his new role since Jan. 1. Karp previously served, for the past 11 years, as the president and CEO of Northern Aviation Services, Saltchuk’s Air Cargo line of business, which in Alaska includes Northern Air Cargo and Northern Air Maintenance Services. University of Alaska Anchorage’s Department of Journalism and Public Communication has announced that Larry Persily will serve as the new Atwood Chair of Journalism. Persily brings almost 50 years of journalism and public policy experience to his new position as the Atwood Chair of Journalism at the University of Alaska Anchorage for the 2019-20 school year. His journalism career began in 1969 as a college newspaper reporter and continued for the next 30 years. Although he took leave from the profession periodically during the past two decades to work on public policy in federal, state and municipal government, he has returned of late to journalism to help out at the Chilkat Valley News in Haines, the Nome Nugget, Peninsula Clarion in Kenai, and writing for the Alaska Journal of Commerce on topics of critical concern to Alaskans. BP names Teachers of the Year

BP announced the winners of the 2019 Alaska Teachers of Excellence on April 8, an award that for more than two decades has recognized the state’s top educators. This year, the group is comprised of 21 teachers that were selected from schools across Alaska. “These teachers represent the best of Alaska education, and it’s an honor to recognize them with this award,” said BP Alaska President Janet Weiss. “At BP, we’re proud to play a part in supporting their continued success and showing our ongoing commitment to the state and to creating the leaders of tomorrow.” For 24 years, the BP Teachers of Excellence program has honored K-12 teachers from public and private school districts statewide. This year, BP received hundreds of nominations for the Teachers of Excellence award and for the newly added BP Educational Allies award. The BP Educational Allies award recognizes unsung heroes in Alaska’s schools such as counselors, teacher assistants and custodians. Since the program’s inception in 1995, BP has recognized more than 750 Alaska teachers. Winning teachers receive a $500 gift card and a $500 matching grant to their school. Teachers also receive a trip to Prudhoe Bay to learn about BP’s operations and paid admission for the Alaska Resource Education’s teacher course. All teachers and educational allies will be honored at an award ceremony in late April, where the statewide BP Teacher of the Year will be announced. Sen. Lisa Murkowski announced the addition of Amber Ebarb to her Washington, D.C., office as the new legislative assistant for Alaska Native, Rural, and Indian Affairs. In addition, Murkowski announced the establishment of her new healthcare team: new staff member Angela Ramponi and current staff member Annie Dietderich. Ramponi and Dietderich will cover the healthcare portfolio as legislative aides. Kennita Williams is joining Murkowski’s Fairbanks office as a regional staff assistant, and will work with Trina Bailey, who continues to serve as the Fairbanks regional special assistant. Ebarb was born and raised in Anchorage and is Tlingit (L’eeneidí clan). She has worked for the National Congress of American Indians for more than 15 years, most recently serving as the NCAI Budget and Policy Analyst. Ebarb received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Whitman College and her master’s degree in public policy from George Washington University. Ramponi is from Soldotna and previously acted as the legislative liaison and policy analyst for the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development in Juneau. She graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a bachelor’s degree public health and biology. Dietderich was born in Anchorage, and previously served as a staff assistant in Murkowski’s office, most recently serving as a legislative correspondent. Dietderich graduated from St. Lawrence University with a bachelor’s degree in government and rhetoric communication. Williams, currently living in North Pole, came to Alaska with her family in 2014 when her husband was stationed at Eielson Air Force Base. She was the discharge specialist and victim liaison for the Eielson Air Force Base legal office from 2014 until joining Murkowski’s office. Williams brings more than 20 years of experience in the administrative and human resources field and, in 2017, was awarded the Eielson Air Force Base Spouse of the Year and Base Civilian Volunteer of the Year award. Bering Straits Native Corp. announced the promotion of Karla Grumman to chief human resources officer/associate vice president. Grumman formerly served as senior director of human resources. Grumman joined BSNC in 2017 after serving in senior HR roles at other Alaska Native corporations and commercial companies. Grumman has 27 years of broad HR experience and will lead the overall HR strategy and administration of services for the company and its subsidiaries. Alaska Deputy Attorney General Robert Henderson has resigned to taking a job with the University of Alaska, effective May 15. Upon Henderson’s departure, John Skidmore will take over as Deputy Attorney General and Paul Miovas will take over as the Criminal Division Director. Skidmore has served as the Criminal Division Director since 2011 and has been with the department for more than 20 years. Miovas is currently the Chief Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Special Prosecutions and has been a prosecutor for more than 16 years including 11 with the Department of Law. Brena, Bell &Clarkson announced that former Gov. Bill Walker will join the firm. Walker will continue his previous work providing municipal and resource and economic development assistance to Alaskans. Walker, a lifelong Alaskan, earned a business degree from Lewis and Clark College in Portland Oregon and a juris doctorate degree from Seattle University School of Law. With Attorney General Designee Kevin Clarkson leaving the firm to go into public service and Walker joining the firm, the firm’s name will be changed to Brena, Bell &Walker. Alaska Communications announced William H. Bishop, senior vice president, customer and revenue management, is being promoted to senior vice president and chief operations officer as of April 9. In the newly created role reporting to President and CEO Anand Vadapalli, Bishop will assume responsibility for business operations including revenue across all market segments, customer service, network and IT. Bishop joined Alaska Communications in 2004 and has served in several leadership roles in consumer and business sales and operations, including director of retail operations, director of business and wholesale, vice president of business and wholesale, and senior vice president of customer and revenue management. He brings more than 25 years of telecom and business leadership experience to this role, including positions at AT&T, McCaw Communications, and a federal government logistic contracting company.

Anna Henderson was appointed general manager for Anchorage Municipal Light and Power. Henderson will take over for current GM Mark Johnston, who has accepted a position in the Lower 48. Henderson has been with the municipality since 2006 and at ML&P in various roles for more than 10 years. She currently serves as the manager for the Regulatory Affairs Division, where she is responsible for overseeing a $60 million annual operating budget and a $10 million to $20 million annual capital budget. Henderson also has experience managing gas supply operations, leading negotiations in purchase and sales agreements, managing federal contracts and leading the development and approval of utility rates for ML&P. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Alaska Anchorage. Johnston, who has served as the general manager for ML&P since 2015, will leave the utility on April 19. Opera Fairbanks, the nation’s farthest-north professional opera company, hired Carol Wilbur as president. Wilbur has served on the board of directors of the company for several years. Founded in December 2005, Opera Fairbanks has been producing live opera and providing educational experiences to Alaskans since 2007. Wilbur has degrees in education from Michigan State University and metalsmithing and painting from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where she taught metalsmithing there from 2001-06. She currently maintains a private studio at Well Street Art Co. Her work has appeared in galleries across the state, and she holds several awards for her work in both painting and jewelry. The Alaska Chamber announced that its executive committee has hired Kati Capozzi as president and CEO. Capozzi most recently worked as the campaign manager for Stand for Alaska Vote No on 1, the group that worked to defeat Ballot Measure 1 in November 2018. The Vote No campaign defeated the ballot measure with 62 percent of the statewide vote. Prior to leading Stand for Alaska, Capozzi worked for five years as a communications and project manager for the Resource Development Council for Alaska. She has also worked for the Alaska Oil and Gas Association and the Alaska Chamber in previous capacities. Joseph Dallaire was appointed Fairbanks District Attorney, effective May 1. Dallaire is replacing current Fairbanks District Attorney Gregg Olson, who is retiring after more than 19 years of service with the Criminal Division of the Department of Law. Dallaire, a former law clerk to Fairbanks Superior Court Judge Randy Olsen, joined the Fairbanks District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney in 2007. He has prosecuted all types of matters in the Fairbanks District Attorney’s Office, including complex felony matters. Since 2017, he has been the Fairbanks Deputy District Attorney, supervising the office and coordinating with law enforcement agencies and courts in Fairbanks and Utqiagvik (formerly Barrow). Dallaire is also an Alaska Police Standards Council-certified police instructor and has provided legal instruction to law enforcement throughout the state. Dallaire previously served as president of the Farthest North Chapter of the Alaska Peace Officers Association and was named its 2016 Criminal Justice Professional of the Year. He has also previously served the community as a member of the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District Board of Education’s Curriculum Advisory Committee.

Scott Rowley has joined KeyBank as vice president and senior payments advisor with the Enterprise Commercial Payments Group. For the past 10 years, he has provided treasury management solutions for high-revenue clients and has extensive experience in consulting and servicing, along with implementing treasury management products and processes. Previously Rowley worked as a treasury management consultant for Wells Fargo. He holds an MBA in international business from Regis University in Denver.

Rasmuson Foundation announced two new members of its board of directors. Eklutna Inc. CEO Curtis McQueen and Alaska Airlines Regional Vice President Marilyn F. Romano have been elected to three-year terms. McQueen joined Eklutna in February 2005 as communications and shareholder relations manager and became CEO two years later. He brings more than 32 years of experience in business, communications, project and construction management, administrative management and governmental affairs. He also previously worked in business development for his tribe, Central Council of Tlingit &Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska. He serves on the boards for Great Land Trust, Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce, Anchorage Chamber of Commerce and the Alaska Native Village Corporation Association. He also is on the advisory board for the University of Alaska Anchorage Rasmuson Chair of Economics, and he serves on a subcommittee for Associated General Contractors of Alaska. Romano started with Alaska Airlines in 2011 as the regional vice president for Alaska and added the state of Hawaii to her area of responsibility in 2016. Before working for the airline, she spent nearly two decades with the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, the second largest paper in Alaska, including 11 years as publisher. She was the newspaper’s first woman top executive. Romano serves on the boards of the Anchorage Economic Development Corp. and Alaska Chamber. She also serves on the Governor’s Aviation Advisory Board, is a trustee for the University of Alaska Foundation, and is vice president of the Alaska Airlines Foundation. Her contributions have brought recognition including a Top Forty Under 40 award from the Alaska Journal of Commerce, Woman of Distinction from the Farthest North Girl Scouts, and the Cashen Award for meritorious service to University of Alaska Fairbanks. In 2014, she was inducted into the ATHENA Society, which honors female leaders who work to set an example for the next generation. Meghan Carson is the newest associate financial advisor on the Alaska Permanent Capital Management private wealth team. Carson graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in economics and in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Prior to that, she studied psychology and Spanish at the University of Denver and abroad in London. Senior Financial Advisors Robert Bell, Alex Joannides and Cassie Kosinski of Wells Fargo Advisors in Alaska have been named among the top 10 Forbes Best-In-State Wealth Advisors for 2019. Bell is based in Fairbanks and works with high-net-worth clients in Interior Alaska. He has 21 years of experience as a financial advisor, including 13 years with Wells Fargo. Joannides joined Wells Fargo Advisors in 2008. He is based in Anchorage and serves high-net-worth individuals and families in Southcentral Alaska. Kosinski has 26 years of financial services experience with Wells Fargo, including 18 years as a financial advisor in Anchorage. The Forbes Best-In-State ranking algorithm is based on industry experience, interviews, compliance records, assets under management, revenue and other criteria by SHOOK Research, LLC, which does not receive compensation from the advisors or their firms in exchange for placement on a ranking. Investment performance is not a criterion. Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium has hired Elliot J. Bruhl, M.D. to assume the newly created systemwide position of vice president/chief medical officer. SEARHC created the VP/CMO position to enhance the coordination and communication of the medical staff and the rest of the Consortium. Bruhl will begin on May 6. Bruhl has accumulated leadership and management experience in both Tribal and non-Tribal healthcare and has a proven track record in developing and implementing quality improvement measures. He served as the medical director for Mountainside Clinic in Sitka from 2006-08 where, among other things, he coordinated the merger with the Moore Clinic and redesigned the physician-practice model. From 2013-15, Bruhl served as Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital’s medical director, where he supervised the full-time medical staff, served on the leadership team, recruited physicians and established a new compliance system. He is currently the medical director of the Northeast and Northwest Family Clinics of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and serves as a consulting physician in the Mayo Clinic Department of Family Medicine and as an assistant professor in the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in geology from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., and a master’s degree in hydrology from the University of Idaho, Bruhl earned his doctor of medicine from the University of Colorado.

The Outdoor Heritage Foundation of Alaska has elected new members to its executive board including a new president. The following changes were made to the executive board on Feb. 13: Jennifer Yuhas was seated as a board member representing hunting interests and elected president, and Julianne Curry was seated as a board member representing commercial fishing interests. Eddie Grasser, previous president, and Ben Mulligan, previous board member, remain involved through seats designated by Alaska Department of Fish and Game Commissioner Doug Vincent-Lang. Jordan Adams has been named business manager/secretary treasurer of the Public Employees Local 71 Bargaining Unit at the recommendation of Dennis Moen, effective upon his March 1 retirement, by the Local 71 executive board. Adams is a long-time member, taking his first union position with Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities in Healy as a heavy equipment operator in December 2005. He has served as a shop steward and became the Northern Region Business Representative for Local 71 in 2013. His last year-and-a-half was spent working directly under Moen as assistant business manager in Anchorage. Adams is also the new chairperson for the Local 71 Health Trust. Covenant House Alaska CEO Alison Kear was recently selected as one of 15 leaders from across the U.S. for the 2019-21 class of the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Children and Family Fellowship. The year’s class is made up of accomplished leaders in the public, nonprofit and for-profit sectors. As a fellow, Kear will utilize Annie E. Casey Foundation resources to work within Covenant House Alaska to make improvements for young people and families in Alaska. The Annie E. Casey Foundation, based in Baltimore, works across the country to develop a brighter future for millions of children who are at risk of poor education, economic, social and health outcomes. The foundation focuses on building stronger families and communities to ensure that children have access to opportunity. The foundation’s Children and Family Fellowship is a 21-month program that develops the leaders of nonprofit, philanthropic and public organizations through professional development opportunities, including executive seminars, peer consultations and individual coaching. In addition to the 21-month fellowship, Kear will have the long-term benefit of being a part of the network of Casey Fellows across the country. The Koniag Inc. board of directors has selected Ron Unger as CEO. Marty Shuravloff has been appointed to fill Unger’s seat on the Koniag board. As Interim CEO and board chairman, Unger was instrumental in helping Koniag through a successful leadership transition resulting in a strong team and sustainable earnings growth. Prior to being hired as the CEO, Unger served on the Koniag board for 14 years, with six years as chairman. Twice during his time on the board, Unger stepped in as acting CEO, in 2013 and then again in 2017. In order to ensure leadership continuity, the board has asked Unger to serve as a non-voting chair until the board votes in a new chair. Linnzi Doerr has been promoted to controller and Courtney Maillet to project accountant in R&M Consultants Inc.’s Accounting Group. Doerr has been with R&M since 2007 in the role of Accounting supervisor and has 17 years of business management and accounting experience. Doerr has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and an MBA, both from the University of Alaska Anchorage. Maillet joined R&M in 2011 as an accounting technician. She has 12 years of financial experience and is knowledgeable in all aspects of business accounting. Maillet has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Col. Scott Howard was recently selected to be the assistant adjutant general and commander of the Alaska Air National Guard, effective Feb. 1. In his capacity as assistant adjutant general-Air and commander, Howard is responsible for the development and implementation of strategy, policy, plans, and initiatives for the Alaska Air National Guard, which includes 2,300 Air Guardsmen in the Joint Forces Headquarters Air staff and at two wings — located at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and Eielson Air Force Base. Howard most recently served as director of staff for the Alaska Air National Guard. Howard enlisted in the Air Force in 1991 as an airborne warning and control systems journeyman. He received his commission in 1998 as a graduate of Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. He joined the Alaska Air National Guard in May of 2003. Prior to his current appointment, he served as director of staff, Alaska Air National Guard at JBER; commander of the 168th Mission Support Group at Eielson AFB; and commander of the 176th Air Defense Squadron at JBER, in addition to other command and leadership assignments with operations and support functions. Howard’s selection to replace him in the director of staff role is Col. John Oberst, who is currently vice commander at the 168th Wing. Oberst is expected to assume the new role in early April. The Alaska Association of Secondary School Principals announced that Meghan Redmond has been named as Alaska’s 2019 Assistant Principal of the Year. Redmond has spent the last nine years working off the road system in rural Alaska with Southwest Region School District. She is currently the assistant principal and school counselor at Chief Ivan Blunka School in New Stuyahok. Prior to this position, Redmond started her Alaskan teaching career as the lead teacher at Twin Hills School in Twin Hills for six years and also spent three years teaching elementary grades in Baldwin, Wis. Redmond received her bachelor’s degree in middle childhood and early adolescence education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2007 and her master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Alaska-Anchorage in 2016. Redmond has been on the executive board for the Alaska Association of Secondary Principals for two years. As Alaska’s Assistant Principal of the Year, Meghan will be representing Alaska at the national level. The National Assistant Principal of the Year for 2019 will be announced at the NASSP National Principals Conference in Boston in July. Resource Data, a custom software development, geographic information system and IT consulting firm, has hired Timothy Harrelson as a programmer/analyst at its Anchorage office. Harrelson recently graduated with his bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Alaska Anchorage. He previously worked as a programmer/analyst intern at the Alaska Railroad Corp. while attending college. House of Harley-Davidson, Denali Harley-Davidson and Kenai Peninsula Harley-Davidson earned the prestigious Gold Bar &Shield Circle of Excellence Award for 2018. Presented by Harley-Davidson Motor Company, this award is given to the top four dealerships in each U.S. sales market. All three Southcentral Alaska Harley-Davidson stores earned the award based on motorcycle and related product sales performance, customer service and satisfaction and operational measures. Rasmuson Foundation announced four new hires. Shawn Rivera joined Rasmuson Foundation in December 2018 as IT operations manager. Rivera has spent the bulk of his career working in IT positions for public and private entities including Municipal Light &Power and the state Department of Natural Resources. Before this position, he served as a program officer with The Alaska Community Foundation. Jess Haley joined the staff in January as executive assistant to the president and board liaison. Haley brings more than a decade of administrative work in higher education including experience in Tacoma, Wash., Chicago and Anchorage. Most recently, she worked at the University of Alaska Foundation learning about the importance of philanthropy in the state. Stephanie Hubers joined the team in November as executive assistant to the vice presidents. Hubers has years of experience in office administration and executive support. She worked most recently at the Alaska Primary Care Association and before that spent four years at Covenant House Alaska. Samona Norombaba came on board in October as administrative assistant. Norombaba also works as program director for the Anchorage International Film Festival, managing volunteers who screen more than 1,000 submissions. ARECA Insurance Exchange announced the addition of Don Maynor, CSP, to the staff of the state’s expert insurer of non-profit electric utilities. Maynor began in his role as loss control and safety specialist at AIE on Feb. 11. He will conduct loss control visits at various locations for AIE’s insureds and will focus on safety training and other matters for both AIE and Alaska Power Association, the statewide trade association for electric utilities. Before starting at AIE, Maynor was the job training and safety specialist at Golden Valley Electric Association, which provides power to Interior Alaska. Maynor began his career in the Alaska electric utility industry in July 2002, when he started at GVEA in the credit department. He earned a Certified Safety Professional designation in June 2017. Northrim Bank announced a new branch manager and three promotions. William “Bill” Kurtz was hired as assistant vice president, branch manager. Promotions are Erika Bills to assistant vice president, business banker III, Cindy Cheely to business banker II, and Shauna Thornton to assistant vice president, branch manager in Sitka. Kurtz comes to Northrim Bank after working at Key Bank in Alaska for the past two-and-half years. He has 30 years of banking experience in the retail and investment divisions. Prior to relocating to Alaska, Kurtz managed several offices for SunTrust Bank in Tampa Bay, Fla., for 12 years. Kurtz holds an associate’s degree in finance. He also hold Investment Licenses Series 6 and 63 as well as State of Alaska Annuity and Life Insurance. Bills has been with Northrim Bank for 23 years where she has held a variety of roles in retail banking and has 27 years of experience in the financial industry. She holds American Bankers’ Association diplomas for general banking, commercial banking, consumer banking and small business banking. Cheely has been with Northrim Bank for 10 years and has 21 years of experience in the financial services industry. She has worked in a variety of departments at Northrim including Financial Sales, Lending and Retail Banking. Cheely has her Alaska Life Insurance License and received Northrim’s Customer First Service Award. Thornton has been with Northrim Bank since 2017 and has been more than six years of experience within the financial industry. She holds a master’s of public administration from the University of Alaska Southeast and is completing her Ph.D. in organizational leadership from North Central University.

Nathan Hagar is Ahtna Environmental Inc.’s newest geologist based in the Fairbanks office. Hagar attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and graduated in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in geological engineering. While attending UAF, he worked as a Student Research Assistant for the Institute of Northern Engineering, performing geologic mapping in the Yukon and Central Brooks ranges. Hagar will be a field team lead for projects such as the installation and startup of an air sparge/soil vapor extraction system at Fort Wainwright and will be sampling various contaminated media at Fairbanks sites and in Tanana. Martin Molyneux has joined AEI as a senior project manager as part of its construction team based in Anchorage. Molyneux has 27 years of experience in Alaska and California managing megaprojects with values of more than $5 billion on Alaska’s North Slope, as well as performing operational work involving major facilities, pipelines, sealifts and fabrication. Molyneux has a bachelor’s degree in political science from University of Colorado. Justin Dunn has joined AEI as a senior project manager in Anchorage. He has an extensive background in commercial vertical construction throughout the state of Alaska, and has worked on projects from the North Slope to Kodiak Island. His experience includes federal, municipal, and private construction, which has increased his versatility and ability to manage different types of projects. Dunn has an associate’s degree in small business management from WyoTech in Laramie, Wyo. Marty Walker was hired by AEI as a site superintendent based out of the firm’s Anchorage office. Walker has 22 years of civil construction including an extensive background with equipment operation. Walker has supervised projects for federal, state, municipal, and private clients, such as ice-road construction on Alaska’s North Slope under extreme weather conditions across sea ice, a new four- lane road and bridge for the 48th Avenue expansion in Anchorage, and the Port of Anchorage 20-acre expansion, which involved the hauling and placing of 1 million yards of fill material. Wayne Johnson was hired as senior superintendent for the AEI Anchorage office. Johnson has 30 years of experience in all phases of the construction industry including providing comprehensive project supervision, quality control, safety management, and project administration throughout Alaska, including in remote locations. He has extensive experience with military, state and commercial clients. U.S. Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan announced that Dana Herndon has been hired as their Juneau delegation representative. As the senators’ representative, Herndon will assist constituents in Juneau and other communities in Southeast Alaska. Herndon will replace Connie McKenzie, who served in this position for the delegation after nearly 15 years. A Juneau resident, Herndon owned Higher Image Management, a full-service marketing agency based in Juneau. Previously, Herndon worked for the Juneau Economic Development Council to help increase economic opportunities for Alaska. She has also served as a public relations specialist as well as a media relations and project manager. Shelley Byrd is the new vice president of marketing strategy for Credit Union 1. Since 2000, Byrd has worked in various levels of Alaskan marketing as an account executive, ad agency team member, executive committee member and more. She also previously served as a media planner and media director in Oregon and received her BBA in marketing from Boise State University. Byrd will be responsible for the internal and external communication of Credit Union 1’s brand, products and services while overseeing its in-house marketing team. Southcentral telecom provider MTA announced the following promotions. Jared Lindman was promoted to director of Product Management at MTA. Since joining MTA, Lindman has organized and improved MTA’s Business Solutions product suite. In 2018, Lindman launched Business Amplifier and redesigned MTA’s business internet plans, repositioning MTA in the business community from internet provider to technology partner. Jacki Webb was promoted director of Marketing and External Communications at MTA. In this role, Webb will ensure brand consistency across all channels driving brand awareness and loyalty. Matt Langhoff was promoted to vice president of Administrative Services at MTA. He has been with MTA for more than 15 years in human resources. In the past two years, he has led the transition of the HR department from traditional HR to Administrative Services to also include risk management, fleet and facilities, warehouse operations and the project management office. Diana Escobar was promoted to Project Management Office manager. During her 15-year tenure with the organization, Escobar has worked in various departments and for the last eight in the PMO department. Architect and interior designer Carel Nagata, CDT/CCCA, NCIDQ, has joined Stantec as an associate and senior architect with the firm’s Buildings group in Anchorage, Alaska. Nagata will apply her 20 years of experience to serve and grow the firm’s Buildings practice in Alaska, with a focus on multi-family housing, education, planning and development. Nagata brings a combination of architecture and real estate experience. In addition to a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon, Nagata earned her master of real estate and construction management degree from the University of Denver. Since 2005, she has worked for both architecture firms and real-estate developers in Alaska. Her real estate experience includes time spent with Cook Inlet Housing Authority and Cook Inlet Region Inc. Since joining Stantec, she has worked on a variety of projects, including the new Homer Police Station and several EPA Brownfield grant projects in Kodiak, the Matanuska-Susitna Borough and Anchorage. First National Bank Alaska announced several personnel moves. Rick Flake was named Corporate Services director. He will oversee special credits for the bank. A graduate of the University of Alaska Anchorage, Flake brings 30 years of local banking expertise to First National. New Lending Unit Team Leader I and Vice President Shin Suzuki will manage an experienced team of corporate lenders and oversee commercial and real estate loans. Suzuki has 16 years of experience in the local banking industry. Michael Musgrove joined the bank as loan officer II and was appointed assistant vice president. Musgrove has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alaska Southeast and more than 20 years of experience in local banking. Matthew Ezell will utilize his decade of banking and real estate experience as First National’s newest mortgage loan originator III and loan officer. Ezell is the current president of the Alaska Mortgage Bankers Association and an active member of the Building Owners and Managers Association of Anchorage. He has been honored as a past “Affiliate of the Year” by the Anchorage Home Builders Association, where he has also served on the board. Assistant Vice Presidents Ligia Lutan and Sheila Lomboy have each been promoted to loan officer III and appointed vice president. The American Red Cross of Alaska announced last month that Buddy Custard, president and CEO of the Alaska Maritime Prevention &Response Network, has assumed the role of chair for the Red Cross of Alaska board of directors. His current term will run through July 1, 2020. Custard possesses extensive knowledge and expertise working maritime operations from both the public and private sectors, including serving with the U.S. Coast Guard for more than 30 years and as a senior manager with Shell Exploration &Production Co. for more than three years while it was operating in the U.S. Arctic and Alaska Outer Continental Shelf. During his career in the Coast Guard, Custard attained the position of Chief of Staff for the Alaska region before retiring in 2012. Custard was preceded by John Moore, ExxonMobil Alaska’s senior advisor for public and government affairs, who ended his tenure as board chair on Jan. 8 prior to taking on a new role as field operations manager, public and government affairs and regional operations for ExxonMobil PNG Limited in Papua New Guinea. Custard joined the board in June 2015 after attending the Red Cross Real Heroes Breakfast that year, and is one of three board members who serves in Southeast Alaska. For the remainder of fiscal year 2019, Custard is joined by Secretary Joseph Gerace, proprietor of Dimond Chevron. Gerace has been a Red Cross board member since early 2016.

Tony Drabek was appointed to the Koniag Inc. board of directors. Drabek was the president and CEO of Natives of Kodiak for more than a quarter century and helped start Northrim Bank, serving on its board for more than two decades. He also served in the United States Army for four years, including one tour in Vietnam and one in Korea. Drabek fills the seat of long time board member Brent Parsons, who passed away unexpectedly in November of last year. Enterprising Women magazine has named Anchorage business owner Kristen Fowler Lindsey a winner of its 2019 Enterprising Women of the Year Awards. Now in its 17th year, the award is considered one of the most prestigious recognition programs for women business owners. Fowler Lindsey, an industry veteran with nearly 25 years of technology marketing experience, is president and owner of Thrively Digital, Alaska’s oldest and largest interactive digital agency. Other award recipients include women from the United States, Canada, India, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Turkey, Germany and Switzerland. Fowler Lindsey is the only honoree from Alaska. Thrively provides comprehensive, integrated digital marketing services to businesses in the tourism industry, as well as in the non-profit, healthcare, transportation, education, government, telecom, publishing and retail sectors. In 2015 Fowler Lindsey completed the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, which is designed to train entrepreneurs to grow their businesses and fuel their local economies. She began Thrively Digital in 2003 and has grown it into a 10-person agency that’s served more than 100 clients in Alaska and the Lower 48. She’s a community member of the Alaska Public Media Board Development Committee and a member of the Anchorage Downtown Rotary Club. She’s a former board chair of the Anchorage Concert Association; she also has been involved with the American Marketing Association and the Alaska Travel Industry Association. Tomas Boutin was appointed executive director of the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority. Boutin comes to this position after a distinguished career in forestry, including four years of service as Alaska State Forester. He is also a former deputy commissioner of the Alaska Department of Revenue. The AIDEA board of directors also appointed former Executive Director John Springsteen to the position of chief operating officer. Springsteen has been tapped to bring AIDEA’s financing expertise to Gov. Michael J. Dunleavy’s newly created Industry Development Task Force. Springsteen has served as AIDEA’s executive director since March 2015, and will represent AIDEA on the Task Force while working out of Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development offices in Anchorage. Boutin received his undergraduate degree in Forest Resources from the University of New Hampshire, and holds an MBA from the University of Oregon School of Business. Springsteen received his undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. Boutin and Springsteen began their new duties on Feb. 11. Credit Union 1 promoted Chris Harris to accounting manager. Harris was initially hired by the credit union in 2010 and brought previous experience as a personal banker with Bank of America to his position at Credit Union 1. With Bank of America, Harris was recognized amid the top 5 percent of personal bankers in the Midwest region. Harris graduated with honors from the University of Hawaii. In his new position, Harris will be responsible for the daily operations of Credit Union 1’s Finance Department. CU1 also promoted Brian Ellis to the position of controller. Ellis was initially hired by the credit union in 2013 as a financial analyst. He was promoted to senior financial analyst in 2016, which is the position he held prior to his promotion to controller. Previously, Ellis worked as an audit associate for KPMG LLP in Anchorage, and he holds an active CPA license from the State of Alaska. He graduated from Idaho State University with a BBA in accounting and has also completed his general MBA. In his new position, Ellis will be responsible for supervising the maintenance of the general ledger, preparation of financial statements with variance narratives, managing the financial and 401(k) audits, assisting the CFO with budget and three-year forecast preparation, and keeping informed of changes and developments in GAAP and regulations that affect the credit union’s accounting, reporting and operations.

Dr. Niki Tshibaka and Karen Melin have been appointed to leadership positions within the Department of Education and Early Development. Tshibaka has been named assistant commissioner, and will lead DEED’s health and safety team. Tshibaka is an attorney and has been advancing civil rights, human rights, and social justice causes in government, non-profit, and private sectors for more than 16 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Amherst College and a juris doctor degree from Harvard Law School. Tshibaka will coordinate the efforts of multiple state departments to address safety and well-being issues. This work will include collaborating with students, school districts, tribes, community organizations, non-profits, and families to maximize educational opportunities. Melin has been named deputy commissioner. Melin previously served as an education administrator and education specialist at DEED, most recently serving as the project coordinator for the Alaska’s Education Challenge and the Every Student Succeeds Act. Previously, Ms. Melin worked for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District as an assessment and multi-tiered system of support coordinator. She holds certification in Alaska as a teacher, and has experience both as a reading specialist and an elementary teacher. She holds an associate’s degree in early childhood education from Evangel College and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Alaska Southeast. Rounding out Commissioner Dr. Michael Johnson’s executive leadership team is Brittany Hartmann. Hartmann has wide-ranging legislative, public relations, and research experience in public education policy in Alaska, having previously served as a legislative aide and member of the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce Education Committee. Hartmann will serve as DEED’s legislative liaison, and the primary point of contact for Johnson. After four decades at R&M Consultants Inc., Senior Vice President of Earth Sciences Charlie Riddle, CPG, and Group Manager of Structural Engineering Duane Anderson, PE, have retired. Riddle and Anderson joined R&M in its infancy: Riddle in 1974 as a field geologist assigned to work on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System and Anderson as a structural engineer in 1975, working on the Gulkana River Pipeline Bridge for TAPS. Riddle became director of R&M’s Earth Sciences Department in 1992, taking over management and responsibility for the department’s growth and direction. His notable projects include the U.S. Navy Over the Horizon Radar Facility in Amchitka, numerous projects in support of TAPS, multiple versions of the proposed gas pipeline, the Susitna Dam Project and Bradley Lake Hydroelectric Project. Over his lengthy career, Anderson has designed numerous facilities valued in excess of $75 million. His experience has been varied and diverse, but has largely been focused on waterfront, bridge, military, utility and school projects throughout Alaska. Anderson became Group Manager of Structural Engineering in 1993, where he has been responsible for building the firm’s structural business line. In 2016, Anderson was recognized as a Fellow with the American Society of Civil Engineers and was nominated for Engineer of the Year that same year. He has worked on numerous projects throughout the years, most notably the Kodiak Ferry Terminal and Dock Improvements, Kotzebue Shore Avenue, Port of Alaska Engineering Services Term Contract, Elmendorf Airforce Base F22 Weather Shelter, U.S. Navy Submarine Acoustic Measurement Facility and Thompson Pass Highline Design for TAPS. CRW Engineering Group LLC, a local engineering and land surveying firm, recently promoted two long-term employees to the position of principal. Justin Keene, PE, is a lifelong Alaskan and began at CRW in 2000 as a summer intern before joining full-time in 2003. Since then, he has served as a project manager/engineer on a variety of civil engineering projects throughout Alaska involving transportation, site, and utility (water, sewer, and storm drain) infrastructure. Keene is currently a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Montana State University in Bozeman. Anthony Robinson, PLS, CFedS, is a senior land surveyor and certified federal surveyor with more than 22 years of experience leading field surveys and mapping for design, right-of-way, land/site development, and construction projects. He is also CRW’s chief drone officer and a FAA-certified unmanned aerial vehicle pilot. Robinson has worked throughout Alaska specializing in land surveying in remote areas. He graduated from Michigan Technological University with a bachelor’s degree in land surveying and an associate’s degree in civil engineering. He joined CRW in 2008. Daniel Mitchell of Cook Inlet Region Inc. and Dr. Thomas Yetman of Providence Medical Group Alaska have joined the board of directors of United Way of Anchorage. Mitchell is chief financial officer at CIRI, where he oversees the Finance and Accounting and Business Development departments. Before joining CIRI in 2018, Mitchell was a managing director at KPMG LLP’s Anchorage office. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Alaska Anchorage and is a certified public accountant. Yetman, a Navy veteran with more than 30 years in the health-care field, is chief executive officer of Providence Medical Group Alaska, which provides primary and specialty care through Providence Alaska Medical Center and The Children’s Hospital at Providence. Before joining Providence here in 2018, he served as CEO and chief medical officer at Providence Medical Group Northwest Washington. An obstetrician/gynecologist, Yetman holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of California San Diego and a medical degree from George Washington University. The United Way board’s new officers are Belinda Breaux, chair, of Alyeska Pipeline Service Co.; Natasha Pope, vice chair, First National Bank Alaska; Beth Stuart, treasurer, KPMG; and Mike Dunn, secretary, Hilcorp Alaska. Bob Griffin of Anchorage and Sally Stockhausen of Ketchikan were appointed to the state Board of Education and Early Development, and Tiffany Scott of Kotzebue was reappointed. The two new members and Scott were sworn into office at the board’s meeting in Juneau on Feb. 4. Griffin was appointed Jan. 15 to fill the seat for the Public At-Large, replacing Barbara Thompson, who resigned. Griffin’s term expires March 1, 2024. Griffin is an airline captain with Alaska Airlines and a retired U.S. Air Force fighter pilot. He is a current member of the Anchorage School District Capital Improvement Advisory Committee and the former chair of the ASD Budget Advisory Commission. Griffin holds a bachelor’s degree in professional aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Stockhausen was appointed Jan. 15 to fill the seat for the First Judicial District, replacing Rebecca Himschoot. Stockhausen’s term expires March 1, 2021. Stockhausen has served as a special education teacher in Alaska for more than 15 years. She currently holds certification in Alaska as a teacher, and serves as a special education teacher and department chair with the Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District. Stockhausen holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from John Brown University and a master’s degree in special education from the University of Alaska Anchorage. Scott was reappointed March 1 to fill the seat for the Second Judicial District. Scott’s term expires March 1, 2024. Scott is employed by the Maniilaq Health Center as a registered nurse in the emergency department. She holds an associate’s degree in nursing from the University of Alaska Anchorage and a bachelor’s degree in extension studies from Harvard University Extension School. Scott is a former member of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School Board.

The Alaska Energy Authority board of directors appointed Curtis Thayer as AEA executive director. Thayer comes to AEA with more than 20 years of experience in the public and private sectors. Since 2015, Thayer has been the President and CEO of the Alaska Chamber since 2015. Thayer also served as commissioner of the Alaska Department of Administration and as the deputy commissioner of Commerce, Community and Economic Development. Prior to joining state government, Thayer served on the management team of Enstar Natural Gas. He also worked for Rep. Don Young as well as Sens. Ted Stevens and Lisa Murkowski. Thayer’s first day as AEA Executive Director will be Feb. 4. Alaska Department of Fish and Game Commissioner Doug Vincent-Lang named Dave Rutz as director of the Division of Sport Fish and Sam Rabung as the director of Commercial Fisheries. Rutz has worked in fisheries research and management for nearly 40 years. He spent much of his career at the department’s Division of Sport Fish as an area management biologist in the Northern and Western Cook Inlet Management area. He has also led the department’s Alexander Creek Invasive Northern Pike Removal and Restoration project and worked around the state in various research and management roles. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree with wildlife fisheries emphasis from St. Cloud State (Minn.) in 1980. Prior to accepting his new role, Rabung has been serving as section chief for the Division of Commercial Fisheries Statewide Aquaculture, Planning, and Permitting, a position he held since 2015. He has also worked in a variety of positions overseeing hatchery operations around the state. He first joined the department as a fisheries technician in 1983. Rabung graduated with honors in 1987 from Sheldon Jackson College with a bachelor’s degree in aquatic resources, fisheries science and aquaculture emphasis. Engineering, planning and consulting services firm Michael Baker International has expanded its operation in Anchorage with two new hires. Marc Luiken has joined the firm as civil/transportation engineering manager and Patrick Whitesell as Environmental Department lead. Luiken previously served as commissioner for the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities. Prior to his public service in Alaska, Luiken served 29 years with the U.S. Air Force, retiring as the Vice Commander of the 11th Air Force in 2010. His career as an Air Force fighter pilot spanned the globe with assignments in Europe, the Middle East and Pacific regions. He is a combat veteran with service in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Southern Watch, Operation Joint Forge and Operation Enduring Freedom. Before joining Michael Baker, Mr. Whitesell served as an environmental specialist at DOWL, a transportation design consultancy, for 11 years. He managed a small team and led dozens of phase 1 environmental site assessments, numerous wetland delineations and noise analyses for a range of private- and public-sector clients. Whitesell also conducted research and analysis on environmental resources including wetlands, waterways and local animal species that could be impacted from proposed projects and ensured project design processes were compliant with the National Environmental Policy Act. He previously served as an environmental engineer at Hawke’s Bay Regional Council, where he managed multiple waterway restoration and enhancement projects from initial design and scoping through construction. Rep. Don Young announced that Zack Brown will serve as press secretary in his Washington, D.C., office. Past board chair of Providence Alaska Foundation Scott Habberstad was unanimously selected as board member emeritus of the foundation. Habberstad’s accomplishments last year include leading the effort to secure 89 percent of the funding needed to advance construction of Alaska CARES, an outpatient clinic that provides evaluations and support services for children around the state experiencing physical and sexual abuse. Alaska CARES is part of a community collaboration that provides treatment in a facility where victim advocates, law enforcement, child protection, tribal health, forensic medicine and mental health professionals are located under one roof so they can work together to help victims. Construction of the $12.8 million facility started in April of 2018, and it is scheduled to open in April 2019. Habberstad’s year as chair also included major milestone celebrations for other programs receiving community support through the foundation, such as The Children’s Hospital at Providence at 20 years of service and Providence Cancer Center at 10 years of service. Habberstad will continue to serve as a voting member on the board of Providence Alaska Foundation in his role as immediate past chair in 2019 and will assume the title of emeritus in 2020. Ronalda Cadiente Brown has accepted the position of associate vice chancellor for Alaska Native Programs at the University of Alaska Southeast. As part of her duties, she will continue to serve as director of the PITAAS program, or Preparing Indigenous Teachers and Administrators for Alaska’s Schools. Cadiente Brown grew up in Juneau and earned her bachelor’s degree in social work from Pacific University. She earned a master’s degree in curriculum and teacher education at Stanford University. Cadiente Brown, who is of Tlingit and Filipino heritage, has dedicated her career toward systems improvement for student engagement, most recently serving as assistant dean in the UAS Alaska College of Education. She is a distinguished educator who began her career with Portland Public Schools as an Indian Education specialist prior to returning home where she served as an administrator for Juneau Public Schools for over 28 years. Ronalda’s professional experience includes Indian Studies Program Director, where she led an Indigenous curriculum project that was adopted by the district and received a federal Showcase Award by the U.S. Department of Education. She also served as a middle school assistant principal, alternative high school principal. She served in the district’s central office as program coordinator of federal grants, including a Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative with multi-community partnerships and K-12 curriculum and teacher training projects. At UAS she has served as PITAAS program director for over seven years. U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski announced that two new counsels, John Crowther and Jed Dearborn, have joined her team at the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. She also welcomed an intern, Grant Cummings, who is assisting the committee with various projects this winter. Crowther joins the committee as senior counsel after serving as director of state and federal relations for the State of Alaska from October 2017 to January 2019. Prior to that, he served as inter-governmental coordinator and special assistant at the Alaska Department of Natural Resources for five years. He will focus primarily on oil and natural gas issues for the committee, as well as issues related to the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act and Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act. Crowther earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Dartmouth College and juris doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center. He is originally from Anchorage. Dearborn came to Capitol Hill in April 2017 as energy counsel for Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo. He joined the committee in September 2018 to serve as senior counsel, where he focuses on policy and regulatory issues in the electricity and natural gas sectors. Prior to his Senate service, he was an associate for the energy and public utilities practice at Schiff Hardin LLP, where he represented electric and gas utilities before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, state utility commissions, and Congress. Dearborn graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in political science from Vanderbilt University, and earned a juris doctorate from The George Washington University Law School. Cummings earned a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He previously worked as a petroleum engineer for the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, and has interned for BP’s Global Wells Organization, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, and Latshaw Drilling Company. Cummings is from Anchorage and graduated from South Anchorage High School in 2012. Sarah Lukin joins NANA Regional Corp. as its new senior vice president and chief administration officer, and Kevin Aubertin joins NANA’s Commercial Group as the president of Tuuq Drilling. Lukin, who officially began her tenure at NANA on Jan. 7, will provide strategic leadership in a broad range of functions, including leading external and government affairs, corporate communications, corporate administration, corporate operations and regional sustainability. Lukin has more than 18 years of experience working with businesses across the U.S. and Canada, including her previous role as chief operating officer for Pt Capital, LLC, and senior vice president of corporate affairs for Afognak Native Corp. Lukin earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Alaska, and a certificate in Alaska Native executive leadership from Alaska Pacific University. Tuuq Drilling, owned by NANA Development Corp., brought Aubertin on in December 2018 to strengthen the drilling company’s business performance for sustainability and growth. Tuuq Drilling provides drilling services in the mining industry, most notably in the 38,000-square-mile NANA region in Alaska’s Arctic. Aubertin comes to Tuuq Drilling with diverse experience in global business organizations including Canada-based Tonto Drilling Services, Nevada-based Coates Drilling and the joint ventures of NANA-Coates and NANA-Dynatec. Most recently, Aubertin was the project management superintendent for Major Drilling America.

The Anchorage Economic Development Corp. announced Lynn Rust Henderson, who is vice president of sales and service for Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska, is now chair of AEDC’s board of directors. Joining her on the board’s executive team are BP Alaska Head of Control David Knapp as vice chair; Northrim Bank Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer Michael Huston as secretary and treasurer; Vice President of Operations for the Hotel Captain Cook Raquel Edelen as as immediate past board chair; and DOWL Vice President of Alaska Operations Steve Noble as at-large executive committee member. Four new Alaska business leaders will join AEDC’s 15-member board of directors. New members include: Furniture Enterprises of Alaska President Dave Cavitt; Bering Straits Native Corp. Senior Vice President and CFO Laura Edmondson; Signature Flight Support General Manager Marty Bettis; and Capital Management Benefits Corp. Director Garret Wong. Ahtna Environmental Inc. hired Matthew White, PE, CIH, whose responsibilities will include directing and managing environmental scientists, chemists, industrial hygienists, and environmental inspectors for the goal of applying OSHA, EPA, and USACE regulations for workplace safety and environmental compliance. White is a Certified Industrial Hygienist with more than 30 years of professional experience. White has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Bob Allen joins Ahtna Engineering Services LLC as a senior environmental engineer. Allen has 30 years of professional experience and has been involved in all phases of contaminated site management including site investigations, feasibility studies, and remedial design. He earned his master’s degree in civil engineering from Colorado State University and his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Montana State University. MTA announced the appointment of Alaska business and real estate veteran Ken Kincaid to its board of directors. Kincaid, a 35-year MTA member, has most recently served on the board for the Mat-Su Health Foundation, where he was brought on to help navigate the complex purchase of an additional ownership stake in the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. He serves on MSHF’s committees for Governance, Program, CEO Evaluation, and is the chair of its Finance committee. Since joining in 2012, MSHF’s long-term investments, investments from joint ventures, and grants to the community have more than doubled. Kincaid previously worked for 18 years at the Anchorage office of commercial real estate appraisal company Shorett &Riely, which later became Kincaid &Riely after he became the sole proprietor. Kincaid has also served on the Alaska Board of Real Estate Appraisers, the Mat-Su Borough Board of Equalization and numerous church and school leadership boards. Mark Corsentino was appointmented as the new general manager of the Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility. Corsentino will replace Brett Jokela, who is retiring after serving as AWWU’s GM for six years. Corsentino has worked for AWWU since 2007. He served as project management engineer and supervisor from 2007-16, and as director of Operations and Maintenance since 2016. In his most recent position, Corsentino led and managed 95 employees, served as a member of AWWU’s leadership team, and was instrumental in the development and execution of the utility’s strategic plan. Corsentino holds a master’s degree in civil engineering and a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Marquette University. He has more than 18 years of professional experience in the industry. He begins full-time as GM of AWWU in early February. The Alaska Chamber announced the hiring of Albert Fogle as vice president, where he will focus on advocacy, legislative issues, as well as operations and financial management. Before joining the chamber, Fogle worked for RISQ Consulting as an employee benefits and business consultant. He is a licensed life and health insurance producer and past president of the Alaska Association of Health Underwriters. Prior to RISQ, Albert served in the U.S. Army as an Infantry Team Leader and Communications Operator where he supervised deployment logistics valued in excess of $2 million under security access controls. His years of military service include a tour in Iraq. Fogle has a bachelor’s of business administration degree in finance, with a minor in criminal justice from the University of Alaska Anchorage. Fogle replaces Ben Mulligan, who recently left the Chamber to serve as the deputy commissioner for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Long-time Alaska fisheries analyst Rachel S. Baker will join the Alaska Department of Fish and Game as deputy commissioner beginning Feb. 1. Also joining the department is Rachel Hanke who started work as legislative liaison earlier this month. Baker brings 15 years of experience as an analyst and policy advisor in state and federal fisheries management to her role at the department. She began her fisheries career in 2003 as an economist with ADFG. She joined the National Marine Fisheries Service in 2008 where she most recently worked as Supervisory Fishery Management Specialist in Silver Spring, Md. She will be based in Juneau. As deputy commissioner she will represent the state’s interests in federal fisheries management issues, including representing the department with the North Pacific Fishery Management Council on behalf of the commissioner. She will also coordinate state and federal fisheries policies and management programs to benefit the state and Alaska’s coastal communities. Hanke started at the department on Jan. 7. She worked in the Legislature for five years prior to joining the ADFG. Her background includes stints as staff to Sen. Peter Micciche and Rep. Kurt Olson. The RSA board of directors has elected Roger Weese as the new president. Channing Lillo has been promoted to vice president and principal electrical engineer. Mark Frischkorn will remain as vice president and principal mechanical engineer, and will continue to lead the Mechanical Department. Tim Hall, who has served as president for the past four years, will remain a principal electrical engineer and will continue to work on a part-time basis.

Alaska USA Federal Credit Union announced four executive level positions within the organization. Wayne Bailey has been selected to fill the new position of executive vice president and chief experience officer. Bailey has more than 25 years of experience with Alaska USA in positions of increasing responsibility, most recently as chief lending officer. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Colorado Boulder. Scott Hansen has been selected for the position of chief lending officer. Hansen has more than 40 years of consumer lending and collection experience, and has been with Alaska USA for more than 13 years, most recently as executive director, Consumer Lending. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Utah. Jessica Graham has been promoted to fill the position of chief risk officer, general counsel. Graham has more than 15 years of in-house corporate law experience, most recently as senior vice president, general counsel. Graham also clerked for the Chief Justice of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, holds a degree in law from the Law School of Duke University, and has served on the board of the Alaska Bar Association. Maria Quick has been selected for the position of senior vice president, Accounting and Treasury. Quick has more than 13 years of industry experience, and most recently held the position of manager, Finance and Accounting. Quick is a licensed CPA with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Northwest Nazerene University. Legislative advocacy veteran Thor Stacey was named director of National Federation of Independent Businesses Alaska. For the past six years, Thor Stacey has been the director of government affairs for the Alaska Professional Hunters Association and has also led legislative initiatives for Trident Seafoods, Alaska Air Carriers Association, Alaska Wild Sheep Foundation, and IPOP Mining. A lifelong Alaskan, Stacey served in the United States Marine Corps under Col. and Alaska U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan. A graduate of AJ Diamond High School in Anchorage, he later attended the University of Alaska Southeast to study political science and government, Stacey also studied in the aviation maintenance program of the University of Alaska Anchorage. Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska announced the promotion of Helene Bennett to Tribal Operations and Self Governance manager. Bennett previously served as the executive assistant to Tlingit and Haida’s Chief Operating Officer Ken Truitt. In her new role, Bennett will provide administrative support to and oversight of the Tribe’s Bureau of Indian Affairs Self Governance programs, provide support to compact communities in compliance with applicable regulations and fiscal policies, and oversee the day to day administrative functions of the Tribal Operations department. Bennett will also manage all facets of Tribal Assembly in collaboration with the Office of the President. She joined Tlingit and Haida’s workforce full-time in 2010 with the Head Start department, she later transitioned to the Native Lands and Resources Department before accepting a position in Tribal Operations in 2014. Prior to this, Bennett worked for the City and Borough of Juneau’s Parks &Recreation Department and the Juneau Police Department. Perkins Coie announced that Sarah Gillstrom of its Anchorage office has been promoted to partner. Gillstrom is a member of Perkins Coie’s Litigation practice. Gillstrom’s practice focuses on construction law and commercial litigation in both federal and state courts. In addition to representing clients in breach-of-contract litigation, she has experience assisting clients — including owners, contractors, and design professionals — in construction disputes. Gillstrom also drafts and negotiates construction agreements, and represents clients in real estate transactions and litigation.

John Novak was appointed as the Anchorage District Attorney. Novak has worked in the Criminal Division of the Department of Law since 1990 and has worked on everything from homicide cases, to handling federal prosecutions as a Special Assistant to the United States Attorney, to advising the Department of Public Safety. Novak’s career has taken him all across the State to prosecute crimes, including Anchorage, Kenai, Palmer, Seward, Bethel, Dillingham, Naknak, and Unalaska. He has also supervised both the drug and violent crimes units during his tenure and pitched in as Acting District Attorney for the Palmer District Attorney’s office. Novak replaces Richard Allen, who has taken a job with the Palmer District Attorney’s office. Col. Torrence Saxe was appointed to serve as the new commissioner of the Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and to serve as the adjutant general for the Alaska National Guard. As commissioner and adjutant general, Saxe will be responsible for nearly 4,400 personnel in four state divisions, and the National Guard, which is organized within the DMVA. DMVA’s divisions include Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Veterans Affairs, Alaska Military Youth Academy, Air and Army National Guard, Naval Militia, State Defense Force and Administrative Services. Saxe most recently served as commander of the Alaska Air National Guard, presiding over 2,300 Air Guardsmen in the Joint Forces Headquarters Air staff and two wings, located at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage and Eielson Air Force Base near Fairbanks. LifeMed Alaska, an Alaska-based ground and air ambulance service with base locations in Anchorage, Bethel, Dutch Harbor, Fairbanks, Juneau, Palmer and Soldotna, announced that Russell L. Edwards has joined the company as CEO. As a former Army MEDEVAC pilot and Alaska Air National Guard rescue helicopter pilot with the 210th Rescue Squadron, Edwards has led teams in the safe and effective conduct of flight operations that resulted in safe evacuation of hundreds in Alaska, the Lower 48, and during multiple overseas deployments. His comprehensive understanding and application of pertinent military and civilian regulations, crew resource management, and team leadership has resulted in multiple awards for rescue operations, including an Air Medal for Heroism for leading a flight of two HH-60s in the rescue of a wounded Special Forces officer in the mountains of Afghanistan. Edwards will retire from the Alaska Air National Guard in the fall of 2019 as a lieutenant colonel.

Bering Straits Native Corp. announced two promotions within the company’s senior management team. Krystal Nelson was promoted to senior vice president/chief operating officer and Dan Graham was promoted to senior vice president. Nelson joined BSNC in 2014 following a successful 18-year career working in public and private business sectors managing federal, state and municipal contracts. Her experience includes management of multi-million dollar programs and projects, union negotiations and managing more than 1,200 personnel. Graham joined BSNC in 2014 after nearly 20 years managing projects for the public and private sector in construction, remediation and service work. His background includes management and operational responsibility for large multi-million dollar international programs, implementing strategic plans and policies and facilitating corporate marketing and business development. PDC Engineers announced several promotions. Utilities Market Sector lead Karen Brady was promoted to the position of principal engineer. She has been with PDC for 17 years. Angela Smith, lead engineer of PDC’s Aviation group (within the firm’s Transportation Market Sector), has been promoted to the position of senior associate. Smith has 17 years of industry experience and has been with PDC for two of those years. PDC Business Development Director and Planner Pat Cotter was promoted to the position of senior associate. Cotter has been with PDC Engineers for nine years and has served as an associate for the past six years. He leads the firm’s planning group in its Land Development Services Market Sector and has filled the role of Business Development director for the past two years. As a key leader in PDC’s Highway group within its Transportation Market Sector, Anne Nelson has been promoted to the position of associate. Nelson has worked with PDC for 12 years as a civil engineer and has earned her PE while at the firm. Kevin Puustinen, a senior civil engineer in PDC’s Utilities Market Sector, has been promoted to the position of associate. Puustinen has had his professional engineering license since 2010 and has performed and managed civil engineering design and construction assignments throughout Southeast Alaska. Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center added Dr. Michelle Oakley to its animal care staff. Oakley will perform veterinary duties including diagnosis, assisting in treatments, and researching medical conditions of AWCC’s resident animals. Oakley joined AWCC with 18 years of experience as a veterinarian, having previously worked at the Yukon Wildlife Preserve and the Calgary Zoo. She has been the star of the popular reality TV show “Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet” and has been a visiting veterinarian at AWCC for several years. GCI, Alaska’s largest technology company, recently promoted Heather Handyside to vice president of Corporate Communications and Community Engagement within the company’s Legal and Policy Department. Handyside, who joined GCI in 2015, will continue to serve as the company’s primary spokesperson. Handyside will continue to work closely with the GCI Marketing team to coordinate the company’s philanthropy and volunteer programs, which donates more than $2 million to Alaska organizations each year and provides more than 32,000 hours of paid volunteer time annually to its 2,200 employees statewide. Handyside brings 20 years of government, non-profit and private sector communications experience into her new position. Alex Hofeling has been selected as the next vice president and general manager for TOTE Maritime’s Alaska office and operations. In this role, Hofeling will oversee both the Anchorage and Fairbanks offices. Hofeling has been with TOTE Maritime since September 2013. He began his time with TOTE as a regional sales manager and was promoted to director of marketing in 2016. Before TOTE, Hofeling worked for Coastal Transportation and served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Hofeling will be the face of TOTE in Alaska and work closely with the Port of Alaska, labor partners, customers and community partners. Hofeling will succeed Grace Greene who was promoted to President of TOTE Maritime Alaska in August 2018. In recognition of his extraordinary efforts to support Alaska’s non-profit community, the Alaska Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals has named GCI Senior Vice President of Consumer Services Paul Landes as the organization’s 2018 Outstanding Philanthropist. The Outstanding Philanthropist award is “presented to the individual or family who has demonstrated exceptional civic responsibility by providing ongoing and major financial support, together with effective leadership, to community-wide major fundraising projects,” according to the AFP Alaska Chapter. While Landes has a history of dedicated service to organizations that support Alaskans, his selfless commitment to the non-profit community this year has eclipsed all of his previous efforts. Since the death of Jim Balamaci in early 2018, Landes has helped launch a $2 million endowment supporting Special Olympics Alaska, where Balamaci served as president and CEO. Also with his leadership, dozens of business executives and the community at-large came together to raise more than $1 million at the Covenant House Alaska Sleep Out. GCI donates more than $2 million to Alaska organizations each year and provides more than 32,000 hours of paid volunteer time to its 2,200 employees statewide.

Northrim BanCorp Inc. announced that Aaron M. Schutt has been appointed to the board of directors, effective immediately. Schutt is currently president and CEO of Doyon Ltd., an Alaskan Native regional corporation and one of the state’s largest land owners. In 2004, Schutt was named as a recipient of the Alaska Journal of Commerce’s Top Forty Under 40 award. After graduation from Stanford Law School, Schutt clerked for Alaska Supreme Court Justice Alexander Bryner. He holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from Stanford University, and graduated with honors as an S. Town Stephenson scholar from Washington State University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Leaders of five Alaska nonprofit organizations received 2019 Rasmuson Foundation Sabbatical Awards. They will have three to six months in the coming year to unplug from demanding jobs to rest, reflect and rejuvenate. The awards, for $40,000 each, help cover the leader’s salary and costs of travel and other experiences during the time away. Each must commit to returning to their job for at least a year. Research shows that sabbaticals usually lead to much longer commitments to nonprofit work. The new awardees are as follows. Alicia Andrew, president and tribal administrator, Karluk IRA Tribal Council, has worked for the tribal council more than 30 years, a demanding position that allows for little personal time. Kay Clements, general manager, Lynn Canal Broadcasting–KHNS in Haines, helped found a community radio station in Marin County, Calif., back in 1995 and has worked in community radio ever since and in Haines since 2011. Lainie Dreas, executive director, Alaska Junior Theater, has worked 22 years for performing arts organizations including 12 as head of Alaska Junior Theater. Mary Middleton, executive director, Stone Soup Group, provides support and resources for families caring for children with special needs. She has worked 25 years for nonprofits while raising children including a son with autism. Tara Riemer, president and CEO of the Alaska SeaLife Center, has worked 15 years for the center including six as CEO. The Anchorage office of global architecture, engineering, and consulting firm Stantec recently expanded its team supporting the oil and gas industry in Alaska. Joining team are William Cobb, PE, and Jenny Iwinski. Additionally, Nick Arnold, PE, was promoted to project manager. Cobb is a senior mechanical engineer with more than 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, working on both onshore and offshore facilities. He has focused on drilling engineering, surface facility engineering, pipeline engineering and project management. He is a U.S. Army veteran and a graduate of the University of Florida, where he earned bachelor’s degrees in both mechanical and civil engineering. Iwinski joins Stantec as its projects control lead for petroleum work. She has more than 10 years of experience in the Alaska oil and gas industry, working on projects ranging in value from $1 million to $8 billion. She has worked on projects with multiple oil and gas clients, including Alyeska Pipeline Service Co., ConocoPhillips Alaska, BP and the Alaska Gasline Development Corp. She is a graduate of the University of Alaska Anchorage. Arnold joined Stantec in 2017 as a project engineer, and in his new project management role, he is responsible for the delivery of a wide variety of projects for Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. He has 10 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and is a registered project management professional. He is a graduate of the University of Idaho. Northrim Bank announced two new hires and two promotions. New hires are Glenn Schmitz, Cybersecurity Program manager and Kristi Dent, consumer lender. Promotions are Anita DeVore, vice president, regional sales and service manager, and Maia Hernandez, associate vice president, branch manager float team. Schmitz joins Northrim Bank with 24 years of IT and cybersecurity experience with the U.S. Air Force. He holds a bachelor’s degree in information technology management from Trident University International. Schmitz is the current president of the local International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium Chapter. Dent comes to Northrim Bank after working at Alaska USA Federal Credit Union for the past nine years. She has worked in consumer lending for three years and holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Western Governor’s University. DeVore has been with Northrim Bank for more than 14 years. She has more than 25 years of experience in the banking industry. DeVore holds a Series 65 securities license as an investment advisor representative for Northrim Investment Services. She received Northrim’s President’s Award in 2013. Hernandez joined Northrim Bank in 2015 and has 11 years of experience in the industry, starting as a teller and advancing to a business banker, and float manager. She is a first generation immigrant and moved to Alaska from the Philippines in 2002. Anchorage-based telecommunications company Quintillion has named Michael J. “Mac” McHale, Jr. as chief revenue officer, responsible for guiding business growth as the company evolves into the next phases of its international fiber project. McHale comes to Quintillion after 16 years as principal at Expansion Services LLC, a telecom manage- ment and advisory services company based in Scottsdale, Ariz. During his 30-year career McHale has held senior management and “C” level positions in some of the most recognizable U.S. telecommunications/technology companies including IBM, Teleport Communications Group, Metropolitan Fiber Systems/MFS Communications, XO Communications, Hawaiian Tel and Innovative Communications. Quintillion’s subsea fiber optic cable system has been serving the northern Alaska communities of Utqiagvik, Wainwright, Point Hope, Kotzebue and Nome since Dec. 1, 2017. As a carrier’s carrier, Quintillion provides Gig-E bandwidth services enabling high speed broadband products and capabilities to consumers, businesses and government clients in these communities.

Movers and Shakers for Dec. 9

Ahtna Inc. announced several new hires within its subsidiaries. Ahtna Global LLC hired Rachel Thompson as proposal manager. Thompson’s professional background includes more than 17 years of experience in marketing, business development, proposal writing, technical editing, and project coordination. More than 10 of those years have been spent in Alaska supporting the environmental, engineering, and energy industries. She holds a bachelor’s degree in language studies from the University of California Santa Cruz and is a member of the Association of Proposal Management Professionals. Michael Records, MS, EIT, joined Ahtna Environmental Inc. as an environmental engineer. With both master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado, Records has seven years of professional experience, primarily in Alaska. His duties include support of environmental and construction work including site investigations, remediation, compliance, and demolition. Denise Yancey joins Ahtna Environmental Inc. as the proposal coordinator for the business development department. She holds a bachelor’s degree in technology from the University of Alaska Anchorage and an associate degree in electronics systems technology from the Community College of the U.S. Air Force. Yancey has been professionally published many times, has more than 20 years of experience in the field, and has lived in Alaska for 33 years. She is a member of the Society of Marketing Professional Services. Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska promoted Frances Andrews to Tribal Court administrator. Frances joined the Tribal Court in July 2017 to serve as the lead clerk of the court. Prior to joining Tlingit and Haida’s Tribal Court, she served as the registered agent clerk for Hoffman and Blasco and also held various positions at SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium. Frances is in her final year of school and will be receiving her bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in management from the University of Alaska Southeast. In her new role, Frances will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Tribal Court, including case flow management; supervision of Tribal Court personnel; developing and implementing policies and procedures, statutes and other governing documents pertaining to the Tribal Court; maintaining the Tribe’s law library containing decisions rendered from the Tribal Court; developing the Tribal Court’s annual budget; and completing required reporting on all grants administered by the Tribal Court. Great Alaskan Holidays, Alaska’s largest RV rental, sales, and service business headquartered in Anchorage, has hired Kevin Linkenhoker as a full-time member of its vehicle maintenance technician team. Linkenhoker has more than six years of relative technical experience, and is a graduate of South Anchorage High School.
