Persily named as federal gas pipeline coordinator

Larry Persily, a former Alaska deputy commissioner of revenue, has been nominated by President Obama to be the federal coordinator of the Office of the Alaska Natural Gas Transportation Projects, Alaska U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, said Dec. 9.

Persily will replace Drue Pearce, a Bush administration appointment, in the position.

As federal coordinator, Persily will be responsible for integrating the activities of federal agencies involved in the permitting and construction of a pipeline to bring North Slope gas to markets in the Lower 48 states. Persily will report directly to the president.

Persily is currently senior staff aide to state Rep. Mike Hawker, co-chair of the Finance Committee in the state House of Representatives.
