TDX gets approval to supply Adak with power on temporary basis

By the Alaska Journal of Commerce

The Regulatory Commission of Alaska has granted TDX Adak Generating LLC temporary operating authority to provide power to the community of Adak, effective Dec. 1, RCA officials said Nov. 21.

TDX will assume all responsibility for electric utility service on Adak, and all customers who were receiving electric utility service from the City of Adak utility Adak Electric will now be served by TDX.

Following an investigation of unreasonable management practices, lax billing, unsafe and unreliable electric service in September, RCA issued an order finding that good cause existed to revoke the certificate of Adak Electric. The commission held a public workshop on Oct. 20 to find a possible successor electric utility to replace Adak Electric.

On Nov. 6, Adak Electric and TDX filed a joint application for transfer of certificate from Adak Electric to TDX, an operating subsidiary of TDX Power. Other operating subsidiaries of TDX Power provide electric utility service in Deadhorse, on the North Slope and in Sand Point, on the Alaska Peninsula. TDX maintains corporate offices in Anchorage.
