Established in 1998, Residential Mortgage is an Alaska-owned mortgage company, and currently has six branches throughout the state.
Residential's management works to offer employees a flexible, generous and supportive environment. Management makes a point of initiating personal contact with employees during the day. Employees are encouraged to work autonomously as well as to contribute to a team effort to accomplish the company's production goals.
Employees are encouraged to develop skills and expertise in the industry. Management's philosophy is to transfer within the company, a benefit to the employee and to the company because it provides cross training within the various departments. This practice also promotes respect among the staff as they all recognize the responsibilities and duties of their co-workers.
Other benefits: Residential Mortgage substantially subsidizes the employee portion of health, dental and vision insurance premiums. Employees who work at least 32 hours a week are eligible for benefits 90 days after hire.
Residential sponsors a wellness program that is customized to encourage employees and their families to live a healthy lifestyle. The program provides activities and educational opportunities throughout the year. Included in these activities are a health fair, brown bag lunches that bring in guest speakers, individual and team exercise challenges, and a host of community events.
Many of the activities offered through the wellness program are on company time and use the company's facilities.
Residential is involved in dozens of community initiatives. The company sponsors several events through financial means, and encourages employees to volunteer their time whenever possible.
Residential and its employees are involved with schools, military and veterans, Salvation Army, United Way, chambers of commerce, a range of sporting activities, cultural, scholastic, city and state emergency response personnel sponsored events and programs.
Employees are recognized by luncheons and other events at which management congratulates staff on goals accomplished.
Most unique, Boss' Day is celebrated by a company-wide nine-hole golf tournament. The “course” is located indoors, inside the Residential building. Tournaments each year have a theme, and food and refreshments are served. The occasion is open to all employees.
