Movers & Shakers



  Ackley    
Imaging Associates of Providence has hired Mark Ackley to serve as the company's chief executive officer. Ackley is a graduate of the University of New Mexico and a Certified Medical Practice executive with more than 15 years of health care management experience in both ambulatory and acute care settings. Ackley has served on the board of directors for the Wisconsin Medical Group Management Association. He maintains an active role in the MGMA and Radiology Business Management Association. Ackley also continues to participate in lobbying efforts for health care reform on both a state and national level. Originally from Pittsburgh, Ackley's work in health care has taken him to all parts of the United States.

Margaret O'Neal has been promoted to director of operations for the Juneau Economic Development Council. Lance Miller, executive director of the council, said O'Neal has managed JEDC's Southeast Alaska Revolving Loan Fund since 1999. Her new role will be expanded to include the revolving loan fund, as well as day-to-day management and financial support of all JEDC programs. O'Neal came to Alaska in 1983 to work for Alaska Federal Savings & Loan, now Alaska Pacific Bank, and later worked for other banks in Anchorage. In 1996, she launched her own company to assist business owners and provide project management and lending expertise to financial institutions. JEDC publishes economic indicators and supports sustainable, economic development initiatives at local, regional and state levels. Its revolving loan fund provides direct loans and offers business consulting services. JEDC's statewide programs include SpringBoard, the Knowledge Industry Network, and the Wood Products and Development Service.

Anchorage mortgage broker Bob Manhire of Starpointe Mortgage has earned the Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist designation granted by the CMPS Institute in Ann Arbor, Mich. CMPS designees can offer clients strategies that encompass mortgages, debt, home equity and real estate investment. The CMPS Institute is a joint effort by leaders in the mortgage and financial planning industries to raise professional standards among mortgage professionals and integrate sound financial planning advice into the mortgage process.


  Jones    
Jesse Jones has joined Miller's Landing in Seward as the manager for the 2007 season. Miller's Landing, now marking its 25th anniversary in the Seward area, offers recreational vehicle and tent camping spots, and has a variety of cabins to rent. Also available are kayak rentals and tours, wildlife and glacier tours, and water taxi services. This summer Jones will work on developing the corporate image of Miller's Landing, establishing corporate policies and procedures, and creating a new marketing strategy for the firm. He will also lead seaside church services on Sunday mornings, to which guests and community members are invited to bring their own musical instruments.

McDowell Group has promoted Ashleigh Arledge to a full-time research analyst, charged with survey research, executive interviews, and analysis of secondary research and data sources. Arledge began working for the Juneau research and consulting firm in October 2006 as a part-time research assistant. Her primary focus has been the Denali Commission Program Evaluation, where she conducted dozens of interviews with community leaders throughout Alaska, compiled socioeconomic data, and participated in a site visit to Nome and Golovin. Prior to joining McDowell Group, Arledge served as program manager for the Maine International Trade Center and as program coordinator at the International Peace Bureau in Geneva, Switzerland. She holds a degree in international relations from Wellesley College, and has studied abroad in Northern Ireland and South Africa.


  Anderson    
Sharon Anderson, a principal partner of Anderson Business Consulting, has been elected chair of the board of the Alaska Aerospace Development Corp., succeeding University of Alaska President Mark Hamilton. Roger Smith of the University of Alaska Geophysical Institute was elected to serve as vice-chair following outgoing officer Henry Penney of Penco Properties.

Jessica Malecha, an electrical engineer with AMC Engineers in Anchorage, is now a LEED Accredited Professional. AMC Engineers is an award-winning, full-service Alaskan design engineering firm specializing in electrical and mechanical engineering design for a variety of public and private facilities, including the recently completed Homer Public Library that received LEED Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. LEED accredited professionals have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices, principles and familiarity with LEED requirements, resources and processes.


  Robbins    
Kenneth E. Robbins has been named Denver office manager at ASCG Inc. Robbins joined ASCG in 1990 and since 1994 has served as the firm's Barrow office manager. He was appointed senior vice president in 1996. Since 1998, Robbins has supervised a 26-person staff in Barrow that provides design and contract administration, water and sewer operations and maintenance oversight services to remote villages in the region. He managed more than 200 capital program projects for the North Slope Borough. Robbins began his career with ASCG in 1990 at Albuquerque, N.M. In 1995, Robbins returned to Albuquerque to assist in an acquisition and management. Robbins is a certified construction contractor administrator and is also certified as a professional building designer. He recently completed a two-year term as president of the American Indian Council of Architects and Engineers and continues to serve on the board of directors. He studied architectural design at Kansas State University and received a certification in cold regions engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Terry Archibald, Julie Goodwin and Suki Horton have joined Alaska Pension Services Ltd. in Anchorage. Archibald, a pension analyst and trust accountant, brings extensive experience from a private money management firm and as a law firm office manager. She has lived in Alaska for 32 years. Goodwin is a pension analyst and document specialist, who has a degree in computer information systems and is pursuing an associate's degree in accounting. She also has two years of 401(k) administration experience with a Nebraska firm. Horton is a pension administrative assistant, who is studying for a mathematics degree at the University of Alaska Anchorage. All three plan to work on their Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) designation from the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries. Goodwin has passed the first three preliminary exams leading to her designation. Alaska Pension Services is locally owned and operated. For 29 years, the firm has provided customized retirement plans that tailor to the special needs of business owners, managers and employees.
