Brooks Range grows holdings on North Slope by 70 percent

By the Journal of Commerce

Brooks Range Petroleum Corp. and its partners have grown their acreage holdings on the North Slope by 70 percent, according to a release from the company March 8.

Brooks Range, along with partners TG World Energy Inc., Ramshorn Investments, Inc. and Bow Valley Alaska Corp., acquired acreage held by independents J. Andrew Bachner, Keith C. Forsgren and David G. Feddersen on leases acquired in state areawide lease sales.

“The Bachner acreage acquisition makes ours one of the largest exploration acreage ownership groups on the North Slope. Gross acreage held by the Brooks Range Group will total more than 300,000 gross acres after this transaction closes and leases are issued from the October 2006 Areawide Sale,” said Jim Winegarner, Brooks Range's vice president of land and external affairs.

The acreage is principally located in four areas:

Gwydyr Bay: 5,115 acres east of BP's producing Milne Point field, where the Brooks Range currently holds leases and is drilling two exploration wells and acquiring a 3D seismic this winter.

Colville Delta: 11,472 acres west of the producing Kuparuk River field, and adjacent to the Titania prospect area on leases now held by Brooks Range, and near the Cronus prospect area, also on leases now held by the group.

Point Thomson area: 96,000 acres south of the Point Thomson Unit and east of the Slugger prospect, where the Brooks Range currently holds leases. Two exploration wells, Yukon Gold No. 1 and Red Dog No. 1, were drilled on this block of leases.

Camden Bay: 14,403 acres of offshore leases surrounding the ARCO Stinson No. 1 well. This well was drilled in 1990, certified capable of producing and granted extended confidentiality of well data by the state of Alaska.

The Bachner group will maintain an undisclosed overriding royalty interest in the acreage acquired by Brooks Range and its partners.
