Tax exemption on Native corporation land exchanges with municipalities

By Bradners’ Alaska Legislative Digest

Chugiak Rep. Bill Stoltze's proposal to exempt undeveloped land obtained by Native corporations in trades with local governments from municipal property taxes is ready for a House vote after moving through the House Finance Committee without amendment, March 12.

House Bill 356 got nine "do pass" recommendations from the committee.

The bill provides the same exemption currently in state and federal law for land trades between Native corporations and either of those governments. The bill would enable a trade between the Eklutna Corp. and the municipality of Anchorage, but would eliminate hurdles for potential swaps on the North Slope and the Bristol Bay region. There is no Senate version of the bill.
