Health care/facility regulation bills get attention this week

Health care and facility regulation will get major attention from legislators in Juneau this week. The Senate Health and Social Services Committee holds hearings Monday, Feb. 18, on Sen. Hollis French's Senate Bill 245, establishing a comprehensive health care insurance program for Alaska.
The committee meets at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, the House Health, Education and Social Services Committee resumes work on House Bill 337, the governor's bill to establish a Health Care Commission and end the state certificate of need program that regulates new health care facilities, as well as House Bill 345, a bill by Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Fairbanks, that preserves the CON program in certain cases. The committee meets at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20.
The Senate Health, Education and Social Services committee meets on Senate Bill 245, the governor's bill on the Health Care Commission and ending the certificate of need program. The committee meets at 1:30 p.m.
