Tom Blake has joined RE/MAX Properties Inc. Blake has been involved in residential sales in the Anchorage real estate market since 1983. Blake, who has served as a pilot with the Alaska Army National Guard since 1981, recently returned from a voluntary six-month tour of duty with the U.S. Army in Heidelberg, Germany.
Stacy Schubert has joined the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce as communications director. Schubert will be responsible for media relations, communications and governmental affairs, and editing the chamber newsletter and Web site. Schubert was previously employed at the 2001 Special Olympics World Winter Games while studying as a journalism and public relations major at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Darlene Wilson has joined the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce as administrative assistant. Wilson will act as chamber board secretary and will serve on the Crime Prevention & Safety Committee and the Business Connection Breakfast committee. Wilson also will oversee cleanup of the Adopt a Road project.
John Blees, Robert Lane and Chong Park, professional engineers in ASCG Inc.'s Anchorage office, have passed the Alaska Professional Engineering Exam. Blees is a staff civil engineer in ASCG's transportation division. Blees has more than five years of design experience on many types of projects, including roads, drainage and water and sewer systems. Since joining ASCG in June 2000, Blees has worked on the civil design for a new 10-story office building in Midtown Anchorage, a road and pathway project in Homer and several transportation plans for Alaska communities. Lane is a staff civil engineer in the same division. Lane has six years of engineering experience. Since joining ASCG in June 1999, Lane has worked on a Homer road and pathway project, a Bethel boardwalk, an Arctic Village airport reconstruction and several rural road improvement projects. Park is a mechanical engineer in ASCG's engineering department. Park joined ASCG in August 1999 and has been responsible for developing a computerized operation and maintenance manual for the North Slope Borough village water and sewer systems.

Nancy Boardman has joined Brady & Co. as a senior loss control consultant. Boardman will provide loss control, risk management and safety services to the firm's large public and private clients. Boardman holds certifications as a certified safety professional and as an associate in risk management. Boardman has 14 years experience in loss control and safety management, including loss control management positions with the Kenai Peninsula Borough, Willis Corroon and Industrial Indemnity. Brady & Co. has hired Kim Wilson as an account manager in its property and casualty group. Wilson will handle marketing, renewals and customer service. Wilson has more than 15 years insurance industry experience.
Lyn Stoller has won the first mid-level Student Affairs Professional Award for Region Five from the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. Stroller is director of Disability Support Services for the University of Alaska Anchorage. Region Five includes six Western states plus British Columbia and Alberta. The honor recognized Stoller's contributions to the profession of disability support services.

Stacey Cooper has joined HDR Alaska Inc. as an environmental scientist. Cooper has two years experience in environmental science, performing site investigations and remediation, hazardous waste management and assisting in brownfields redevelopment. Prosenjit Mitra recently joined HDR as an engineering geographic information systems programmer. Mitra has three years experience in GIS programming and analysis. The firm has hired Ann Schaeffer as technical editor. Schaeffer has more than 10 years experience in writing and editing for technical and nontechnical audiences. Leslie Robbins has joined HDR as a marketing coordinator. Robbins previously worked as a public relations officer for the city council in Nottingham, England, and for The Oregonian's public affairs department in Portland, Oregon.

Michelle M. Meshke has joined the law firm of Birch, Horton, Bittner & Cherot as an associate. Meshke received a law degree from the University of Oregon Law School in 1998. Meshke previously served as a law clerk for Judge Larry Weeks of the First Judicial District in Juneau and as an assistant district attorney in Anchorage. Meshke's practice focuses on general litigation and municipal law.

RIM Design has promoted Shelah Shanks to associate. Shank, a designer for the firm, is currently involved in the interior design for the new Arctic Slope Regional Corp. office tower in Midtown Anchorage. Shank also is serving as the lead interior designer for the addition and renovation to the University of Alaska Anchorage/Alaska Pacific University Consortium Library.

Wendy Sailors has been hired as sales manager for the Dimond Center Hotel in South Anchorage. Sailors manages all sales, marketing and public relations for the property with the hotel's management company, Richfield Hospitality Services. Sailors has more than 10 years of experience in the hospitality industry and has worked for Princess Tours and Hawaiian Vacations. Sailors' most recently was employed in the public relations department of Special Olympics World Winter Games Alaska.
The Poynter Institute has selected Shana Sheehy as one of 30 outstanding graduating journalism students in the United States. Sheehy is a senior in the University of Alaska Anchorage Journalism and Communications Department and the first journalism student from Alaska to be chosen to participate in Poynter's Spring Break for College Journalists program. Sheehy, a graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School, is station manager of campus radio station KRUA-FM.
The South Central Alaska Chapter of the American Red Cross has hired Wendy McFeron, Jim Minnery and Kelly Hurd to serve in its development department. McFeron joined the organization as development coordinator. McFeron volunteered with the chapter following the events of Sept. 11. McFeron handles donations and maintains the donor data base. Minnery joined the American Red Cross as the director of development. Minnery is a certified fund-raising executive and has worked in development and nonprofit management for 12 years. Hurd is serving the organization as community relations manager. Hurd relocated from the Milwaukee Chapter to join the South Central Alaska Chapter. Hurd coordinates special events, acts as media spokeswoman for the chapter and informs the public of Red Cross programs and services.
