Focus of service: Husband and wife Stan and Rona Bissonette run two businesses under one roof.

Stan operates Budget Rubber Stamps, "the commercial end of the business," he said. His work includes custom stamps, seals, custom laser engraving, address stamps, bank deposit stamps and signature stamps.

"We do a lot of jewelry engraving," Stan said.

Stan also sells trophies, awards, plaques, desk plates, door signs, name tags and electrical panel tags.

Rona runs Arctic Stamps, billed as Alaska's largest art stamp store. It specializes in decorative art stamps and supplies.

She also teaches classes on how to make cards, decorate boxes, envelopes and bookmarks.

History of company: Stan celebrated 16 years in business on Jan. 1.

A 1957 graduate of Anchorage High School, Stan served 23 years in the Navy.

He purchased the store for about $3,000.

"It was started as a hobby and just kind of blew up on me," Stan said.

Rona will celebrate her fifth year in business in March.

She came to Alaska in 1964, just after the big earthquake, from Wisconsin.

"Winters up here are a piece of cake," Rona said.

Major accomplishments: When he first opened Stan Bissonette produced about six stamps per day. Now, he will typically do 50 or 60 in one day.

A major accomplishment is "just far exceeding our expectations, and having a lot of fun doing it," Stan said. "I always enjoy coming in. There's something new every day."

The store has a casual, friendly atmosphere and several times per year Rona will have an all-night, stamp-making pizza party.

She began her side of the business with about 100 square feet of room, but has grown to 1,800 square feet.

She said there are three art stamp stores in Anchorage, and business is doing well.

"We anticipate pretty good growth the next couple of years," Rona said.

Major players: Stan and Rona Bissonette.
