America West announces Anchorage-Phoenix run

America West Airlines said Feb. 2 that it will initiate daily, nonstop year-round service between Phoenix and Anchorage on June 1.

Dion Flannery, vice president, said in a statement that in Phoenix "customers can connect through the airline's Phoenix hub to and from another 57 America West destinations across the U.S. as well as in Mexico and Costa Rica."

America West will use the 124-seat Airbus A319 aircraft with 12 first class seats and 112 coach class seats for the Anchorage-Phoenix route.

Flight 141 will depart Anchorage at 1:15 a.m. and arrive in Phoenix at 7:50 a.m. From Phoenix, flight 140 departs at 7:30 p.m. and arrives in Anchorage at 11:50 p.m.

America West is the nation's second largest low-fare airline and the only carrier formed since deregulation to achieve major airline status, the company said.

America West (NYSE: AWA) has 13,000 employees that serve nearly 55,000 customers a day in 93 destinations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Costa Rica.
