STEELFAB, the state's largest locally owned steel fabricator based in Anchorage, has received several recertification from industry organizations. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers reissued its certification for the fabrication and assembly of pressure vessels and pressure piping. The National Board of Boiler and Pressure Inspectors gave its approval again for the fabrication of boilers, pressure vessels and other pressure retaining items. The American Institute of Steel Construction also recertified STEELFAB for fabrication of conventional steel structures, complex steel building structures and simple and major steel bridges. The American Welding Society conferred certification as an AWS welding fabricator. Alaska Pacific University received a $2.55 million grant from the Rasmuson Foundation to fund capital projects and facility improvements. The grant will be paid over a two-year period beginning this year. One of the first projects funded is the renovation to the second floor of the university's main academic building, Grant Hall. The hall was built in 1959. Other scheduled improvements include limited renovations to the university president's home, replacement of worn seating in the Grant Hall Theater, construction of the 24-bed Segelhorst Residence Hall and a maintenance shed.
