Movers and Shakers - Feb 16 2009


Diana Matukonis has been selected as the new marketing manager for Medical Park Family Care in Anchorage. Her responsibilities include internal and external marketing efforts and acting as a liaison between community members and the clinic to further raise awareness of all services Medical Park Family Care offers. Matukonis was most recently the marketing director for two large assisted living facilities.


  Hagestad    

Van Dane Hagestad, of Bettisworth North Architects and Planners, is now a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited professional. Hagestad, a project manager and architect, joined Bettisworth North - Anchorage in 2007 and is currently working on several projects. Hagestad brings more than 14 years experience with emphasis in educational, medical, retail, commercial and sustainable design.

Kenneth Fisher has been appointed and Mary K. Hughes reappointed to the University of Alaska Board of Regents. Fisher, of Juneau, has 25 years of professional engineering, national program management and senior legislative experience. He is an engineer officer with the U.S. Public Health Service, currently assigned to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as the agency's senior representative to the state of Alaska. Hughes, an Anchorage attorney, has served on the Board of Regents since 2002. She also chairs the Alaska Humanities Forum.

Michael L. Foster, of Eagle River, has been appointed to the board of the Knik Arm Bridge and Toll Authority. Foster is the owner and principal engineer of Michael L. Foster & Associates Inc., a firm that provides civil, arctic, geotechnical, sanitation and environmental engineering services for planning, design and construction projects throughout Alaska. He was appointed to the municipality of Anchorage seat vacated by George Wuerch. Foster was also named the chair.

David Weldon Jr., a former Florida congressman, has been named to the Alaska Aerospace Development Corp. board of directors. Florida's 15th congressional district, which he represented, is home to the NASA Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. While in Congress, Weldon served on the House Science Committee, Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics, including six years as vice chair. In his last six years in Congress, he served on the Committee on Appropriations. Weldon was appointed to a seat representing the aerospace industry sector.


  Lindemuth    

Jahna Lindemuth as the new head of the Anchorage office of Dorsey and Whitney LLP, an international law firm. Lindemuth is a partner and head of the Anchorage trial department. She has been with the firm for 10 years. Her practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, oil and gas law, and professional malpractice defense. She earned a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law in 1997, Order of the Coif, and her bachelor's degree from Drew University in 1991.

Sami Glascott takes office Feb. 17 as the new president of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, succeeding Stacy Schubert, who steps down March 2. Chamber officials said Glascott's experience in financial operations, strategic planning, membership and community relations, as well as public policy development, will position the organization for a new era of challenges and opportunities for businesses in Anchorage. Chamber officials also saluted Schubert for her leadership and commitment during her six years with the chamber, a nonprofit, member-driven business organization with nearly 1,300 members representing more than 70,000 employees.

Jim Picard has joined Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union as a vice president and production manager, to oversee all loan origination efforts for mortgage lending. He most recently was the district manager at GMAC Mortgage Corp. Picard graduated from Old Dominion University with a bachelor's degree in science, majoring in business administration and management. His career has focused on mortgage and lending with companies such as Alaska Housing Finance Corp., City Mortgage and Premier Mortgage. Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union is the third largest credit union in Alaska, with more than 56,000 members and assets in excess of $400 million.


  Blury    

Ken Denny and Jay Blury were appointed assistant vice presidents at Northrim Bank. Denny is the security manager responsible for investigation of fraud and theft as well as the physical security of Northrim Bank's branches and facilities. He has more than 21 years experience in security and law enforcement and has been with the bank for two years. Blury, a marketing officer responsible for market research, advertising, promotional materials and managing the bank's marketing database, has several years of sales and marketing experience and has been with the bank for three years.


  Beam    

Carla Beam, director of community affairs for BP Exploration and the BP Energy Center, is the new chair of the Alaska Community Foundation board. She began her term Jan. 29. Other new board officers include First Vice Chair Kris Norosz of Petersburg, Second Vice Chair Susan Foley of Anchorage, Secretary John Abreu of Wasilla and Treasurer Bernard Washington of Anchorage. Also elected to the board were Judy Warwick of Fairbanks and Angela Cox of Anchorage. Elected to a second term were Ken Castner, Homer, Morgan Christen, Anchorage, and Reed Stoops, Juneau. The foundation manages more than $30 million in charitable funds and makes grants to organizations across the state.


  Beam    

TerriLee Bartlett has been named specialty trust consultant for Wells Fargo Private Client Services. She will provide comprehensive wealth planning, investment management consulting, specialty asset management and personal trust and estate management services. Bartlett has more than 20 years of experience in real estate investing, estate planning, investment management and retirement planning in Alaska. Most recently, she served as a financial consultant for Wells Fargo Investments.

John Rodgers of Anchorage has been selected to serve on the Treasury Department's nationwide Taxpayer Advocacy Panel, whose mandate is to listen to taxpayers, identify issues and make suggestions for improving service by the Internal Revenue Service. Rodgers is a certified public accountant and managing partner at Laughlin, Ogle & Rodgers LLC. TAP members devote 300 to 500 hours yearly to the panel, working with IRS executives on priority topics and also serve as a conduit for grassroots issues between the public and the IRS.
