The Alaska State Chamber of Commerce will host the 2003 Legislative Forum in Juneau Feb. 11-12. This year's theme is "Fly-In for Alaska Business." The forum agenda includes a day on Capitol Hill and the annual legislative dinner. The $150 registration fee includes one lunch, a breakfast, two receptions and the banquet dinner. The Anchorage Chamber of Commerce will hold its weekly Make it Monday Forum, at noon Feb. 10 at the 4th Avenue Theatre. The scheduled program will feature Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau and Fur Rendezvous coordinators sharing an overview of this year's scheduled Rondy events. Anchorage Business & Professional Women will host the 6th Annual Fur Rondy Fur Fashion Show Feb. 14 at the 4th Avenue Theatre. The doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. There will be a live auction and a silent auction in addition to the fashion show. Proceeds go the the Women's Community Scholarship Fund. Interfaith Caregivers, a service of the Providence Health System in Alaska, is looking for volunteers who want to lend support and assistance to adults who are coping with the effects of illness, disability or aging. Training for new volunteers will take place Feb. 15 from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the Aspen Room of Providence Alaska Medical Center. Volunteers are needed to provide social visits, transportation and assistance with light household chores. For more information, call 261-5053.

The Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce will hold its weekly Must Be Tuesday luncheon Feb. 11 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Mat-Su Resort, 1850 Bogard Road. This week's program will feature a presentation by Alaska's new State Adjutant General, Craig Campbell. Program fees are $3 for members and $5 for nonmembers with optional lunch available. The Foraker Group will offer a training session on enhancing the level of performance of the nonprofit board of directors Feb. 11 from 9-11 a.m. at the Matanuska Telephone Association, 480 Commercial Drive, Palmer. Participants will focus on how to take a nonprofit board to a higher level of service through efficient management of committees and meetings, clear job descriptions and use of best practices in board leadership. This training is open to anyone associated with a nonprofit who wants to learn more about ways to build a strong, effective organization. The Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce will hold its weekly General Member Luncheon at noon Feb. 4 at the Westmark Hotel Gold Room. The University of Fairbanks Geophysical Institute will offer Science for Alaska, a free lecture series, at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus every monday evening Feb. 3 - Mar. 10 at 7:15 p.m. The Feb. 10 lecture will feature Jill Fredston, co-director of Alaska Mountain Safety Center Inc. Her presentation is entitled "Learning to Think Like an Avalanche." The statewide series is coordinated by the UAF Geophysical Institute and is funded by a grant from the Alaska Science and Technology Foundation and by the University of Alaska. The Mat-Su Borough Small Business Development Center in conjunction with Ruth St. Amour, business development specialist at the Department of Community and Economic Development, will offer "Bookkeeping 101" Feb. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon at 201 N. Lucille St. Suite 2-A in Wasilla. The seminar will address ways for small businesses to keep sound financial records. The seminar is free but pre-registration is required. The Alaska Club Network offers a "Heart Smart" seminar and screenings Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Alaska Club West, 1400 W. Northern Lights Blvd. The seminar will feature Kimberly Mills of Osteocare discussing the warning signs and therapies for heart disease. The screenings include body composition analysis, health risk assessment questionare and report, blood lipid, and arterial elasticity measurement. There is a fee for each of the screenings.
