Wallace R. Thomas of the Anchorage offices of Edward Jones, a financial services firm, has been designated as a Chartered Life Underwriter Consultant by American College in Bryn Mawr, Pa. He completed an eight-course curriculum and 16 hours of examinations to fulfill the requirements.

Carl D. Kuhn, a certified commercial investment member, has joined the commercial division of the Prudential Jack White real estate firm. Kuhn formerly was a national real estate associate with Grubb & Ellis, representing the firm in Arizona and New Mexico. He hails from Alaska and earned bachelor's degrees in finance and economics from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The Anchorage Central Labor Council AFL-CIO has elected Don Valesko as the organization's new president. Valesko will serve a two-year term. He replaces Valerie Baffone. Valesko is the business manager for Public Employees Local 71. Melinda Taylor, communications director for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, was elected as a trustee to the executive board of the central labor council.

Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union hired Lily Li as vice president in charge of internal audit and compliance. Li has more than 17 years experience in finance, accounting and auditing with the Municipality of Anchorage and several other banking firms. She earned a degree in management science from Alaska Pacific University and an accounting degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Sheldon Fisher is the new senior vice president of sales and product marketing at Alaska Communications Systems Group Inc. He most recently was the vice president at Broadband Direct of the Sprint Corporation. He also held legal positions in the past for Sprint as well as Hughes Electronics. He has a juris doctorate degree from Yale Law School and a bachelor's degree in economics from Brigham Young University.

Numerous Wells Fargo Bank Alaska employees in the Anchorage area were given officer promotions recently. Chris Horton, a commercial banking relationship manager, was named vice president. Tammy Gray, a South Anchorage business banker, was promoted to vice president. Brett Hanson, manager of the Eagle River branch, was named assistant vice president. Zachary Hays, a Minnesota-Benson branch manager, is now an assistant vice president. The following Anchorage area bankers were named as officers: Charity Carmody and Benedicte Galligan, both personal bankers at the Anchorage main branch; William Hagood and Lamin Jobarteh, both personal bankers at the Russian Jack branch; Kylene Helander, a personal banker at the Minnesota-Benson branch; Owen Strong, a commercial real estate specialist and Tommy Peng-San Wang, a credit analyst in the commercial banking department.

Executive Jet Management has named Amanda North as regional vice president of charter services. Her territory covers the western United States to include Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington. She is based in San Jose, Calif.

Animal Food Warehouse in Anchorage has added two new employees. Megan Knight is the new cashier team leader. She has prior experience as a veterinary clinic assistant. Shara Bingaman will head up the sales team. She was a zoo keeper at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Nebraska before moving to Anchorage.

Daniel R. Fauske, chief executive office and executive director of the Alaska Housing Finance Corp., has been appointed as one of 25 public interest directors to serve on 12 different federal home loan bank boards. His term expires Dec. 31, 2006. He currently serves on the National Housing Development Corporation board of directors.

Steven L. Rouse, president and chief executive officer of Squire Consulting Company in Anchorage and Homer, earned his Economic Development Finance Professional certification from the National Development Council based in New York. To earn the certification, he completed a seven part series of intensive five-day courses ending in four-hour written exams. Then he took a comprehensive eight-hour written exam for accreditation. He has a degree in economics from the University of Alaska and is co-founder of the Made in Alaska product certification program.
