Anchorage updates demographic data

For the first time in nearly six years, the municipality of Anchorage has updated some of the most requested information about Anchorage and its residents. The Neighborhood Sourcebook is resource for population trends, demographic characteristics, education, employment, income, housing, cost of living, government and military information.

The municipality regularly provided updated demographic information until 2000, when the municipal demographer's job was eliminated due to budget cuts. The city last year contracted with former demographer Susan Fison to gather the latest statistics for the public's use.

The Neighborhood Sourcebook totals more than 350 pages and includes maps and charts that highlight key indicators. Tables and sources are included for those seeking more detailed information.

The sourcebook was jointly funded by the municipality's Department of Community and Economic Development and the Finance Department.

The information is only available online at www.muni.org.
