Movers & Shakers


Karen Hill has been named the University of Alaska Anchorage marketing manager for the Summer Sessions program. She will be responsible for all marketing aspects of UAA's Summer Sessions both within the state and nationally. Hill has nearly 20 years marketing experience in Alaska, having worked as a specialist for KeyBank and as the owner of KH Consulting. She holds a BA from Down College in Nebraska.

Danielle Williams has been selected to serve as the new director of grants and justice partnerships for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska. Williams' new position will find her co-leading the implementation, grants management and evaluation of the Targeted Re-Entry program at the McLaughlin Youth Center. She will do so by managing the club Grants Department, securing and managing grant funding, and maintaining and enhancing juvenile justice and community partnerships. Williams holds a bachelor of arts from the University of Pittsburgh and a master's degree in social work from the University of Michigan. She has been with the Boys & Girls Club since November 2000.

Stacy Schubert is the new president of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce. She will be vacating a position as the communications director and program development coordinator. As president, Schubert acts as a liaison to the board of directors and the general membership, manages the organization's staff and oversees the implementation of the long-range strategic direction compiled by the board last year. She is also responsible for growing and retaining membership.

Ben Northey, the Alaska manager of Goodfellow Bros. Inc., has been designated as Certified Professional Constructor from the American Institute of Constructors. He is one of about 2,000 practitioners in the United States and the only constructor in Alaska to be certified in the program, which recognizes excellence in construction based on experience, education and written examinations. Northey holds a bachelor of science degree in construction engineering from Montana State University, where he was a student member of the American Institute of Contractors.

Anchorage-based accounting firm Thomas, Head & Greisen APC promoted two accountants, Angela R. Doell and Susan M. Spyker, to management positions. Doell and Spyker will provide financial accounting and tax planning services as well as assist and supervise the firm's other accountants. Doell, who has been with the firm for five years, is a Certified Public Accountant in both Alaska and Washington state. She most recently served as senior staff accountant for Thomas, Head & Greisen. Spyker, an Alaska-certified Public Accountant, has been with the firm for half of her six-year career. She also most recently served as senior staff accountant.

Greg Kessler of Totem Ocean Trailer Express has been promoted to the position of Alaska finance manager. He will be responsible for the overall coordination and supervision of the accounting and finance functions of the Alaska division. Kessler was a sales associate for TOTE Alaska since 1998. Prior to that, he worked as a Seattle-based account manager and an Anchorage-based account manager/branch manager for Yellow Freight System. Kessler holds a bachelor of science in business administration from St. John's University and a master's of business administration from the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Kenneth Ratcliffe has been promoted by AMC Engineers to associate engineer. Ratcliffe has been with the firm since 1991 and has been involved in the engineering, construction administration, and commissioning of projects throughout the state. Among his sites and clients, he counts Peninsula School Districts, the University of Alaska, the Alaska Court System, and the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities. Most recently, Ratcliffe served as the supervisor of electrical engineering for the Dimond High Replacement School project, which is in its final construction stages. He has won two International Illumination Designer Awards and is a member of the Alaska Society of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Professional Engineers and the Society of American Military Engineers. Ratcliffe holds a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Oregon State University.

The Animal Food Warehouse has added Nicci Slack to its management team. Slack will serve as the controller for the company and will be responsible for corporate financial matters. She has more then 10 years of accounting experience, having worked for eight years for TrailerCraft Inc. and two years at Capital Office Systems Inc. Slack holds a bachelor's degree in Justice with a minor in psychology from the University of Alaska Anchorage. She has lived in Alaska for more than 12 years.
