Palin keeps Sampson as Education commissioner, adds Hartig, Fedullo

The Associated Press

JUNEAU — Gov. Sarah Palin continued to assemble her staff Jan. 10 by adding three members who will serve the departments of education and environmental conservation and the press office.

Her appointments include a reappointment: Roger Sampson as the Department of Education and Early Development commissioner. Larry Hartig is the new Department of Environmental Conservation commissioner, and Charles Fedullo was named deputy press secretary and deputy communications director.

“They bring a wealth of knowledge, an impeccable work ethic and a high level of commitment to the state,” Palin said.

Sampson remains in his post, where he has served since being appointed by former Gov. Frank Murkowski in May 2003.

Hartig is a lawyer from Anchorage with experience in areas such as the environment, natural resources and real estate.

Fedullo worked three years for former Gov. Tony Knowles' administration and was most recently assistant professor and chairman of the journalism department for the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. He will be assigned to the Juneau office.
