Major focus of services: Microware Computer Services provides computer network services, Web hosting and Internet connections, plus computer hardware services, help desk staffing and software training.

History of the company: Alaskan Ron Perry founded Microware in pursuit of his dream of starting his own business. He started the company from his parents' home -- then under construction -- with a Macintosh computer and homemade business cards and letterhead. Perry's hard work paid off two years later as the business helped pay for completing his family's home.

In 1992 Microware began offering training sessions to diversify its services. Two years ago Microware started providing services for Web sites.

The company employs six employees mostly full time.

Microware is a Microsoft Solutions Provider.

Top accomplishment of the company: Perry is proud Microware has logged 10 years in business. He cites employees' contributions and an ability to change. "In this industry, it's the ability to adapt that's the thing that saves us. The ability to adapt to what the consumer is looking for is the No. 1 thing," he said.

Perry has lived in Anchorage since age 5. He earned a bachelor's degree in business management from Oregon State University in Corvallis. He worked for other computer companies specializing in sales before starting Microware. He also completed advanced small business training at Loyola University in Virginia. Perry is an Apple certified technician. He is a Cook Inlet Region Inc. board member and president of the Alaska 8(a) Association.
