  Kitka    
Roberta Kitka of the Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium has been honored with the Theda New Breast Lifetime Achievement Award during White Bison's Sixth Annual Wellbriety Conference held Oct. 27-29 in Denver. The theme of the conference was “Wellbriety Movement in Motion! Youth, Families and Suicide Prevention.” Kitka is a drug and alcohol treatment specialist with SEARHC's Gunaanasti Bill Brady Healing Center and Deilee Hit Safe Harbor House. She also served as project chairwoman for the Kooteeyaa Project Wellbriety totem pole that was raised Oct. 14 in front of the SEARHC Community Health Services building in Sitka. The Kooteeyaa pole celebrates healing, and the carving and pole-raising process involved hundreds of community members. At the pole-raising celebration, SEARHC president and chief executive officer Ken Brewer presented Kitka with the President's Gumboot Award, SEARHC's highest award. White Bison Inc. is an American Indian nonprofit based in Colorado Springs, Colo., that serves as facilitator for the national Wellbriety Movement. Wellbriety means to be sober and well, and the Wellbriety Movement uses a Native journey to healing for the total person — a journey that links physical, mental, spiritual and emotional health.


  Horst    
Northrim Bank has hired Len Horst as vice president and commercial loan officer. Horst has more than 24 years experience in the financial services industry with experience in consumer lending, leasing, commercial banking, international banking and corporate lending. He joins Northrim after serving several years in the automobile and recreational vehicle industry. He's a graduate of Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington, and is a certified instructor for the American Institute of Bankers. He's a community member of the Chambers of Commerce, and dedicates his time to the United Way, Rotary International, the Salvation Army, Anchorage Opera Association and the Anchorage Museum.


     
The Anchorage Home Builders Association has installed its new officers and board of directors for 2007. Eric Schach of Alaskan Homecrafters will serve as president. His executive officers include Sue Wolfe of The Petersen Group as vice president, Chuck Homan of Homan Inc. as treasurer, Andre Spinelli of Spinell Homes as secretary and Ray Hickel of Northern Home Builders as past president. Board of directors include Jim Fredrick of Habitat for Humanity, Josh Sundstrom of Willowridge Construction, Bill Taylor of Colony Builders, Doug Steffen of Taylored Restoration Services, John Hagmeier of John Hagmeier Construction, Brent Eaton of Rain Proof Roofing, Tim Ruf of Ruff Drywall, Terry Bryan of First American Title of Alaska, Don Clary of First National Bank of Alaska, Mike Harned of Anchorage Sand and Gravel, Tara Tetzlaff of Northrim Bank and Steve Voves of Spenard Builders Supply. AHBA board members are elected by the membership. All board members will serve one-year terms, except for Eaton, Hagmeier, Harned, Homan and Schach, who will serve two-year terms. The Anchorage Home Builders Association is a nonprofit trade association representing more than 330 members who employ more than 8,000 people in the Anchorage and Eagle River areas. AHBA members include residential builders, remodelers and businesses related to the housing industry.


     
The 2006 Alaska Certified Residential Specialists' CRS of the Year award went to A. Janelle Pfleiger at RE/MAX Properties Inc. for her community involvement and service and for her untiring work for both CRS and Realtor groups on the city, state and national levels. Pfleiger is the 2005 and 2007 CRS president and currently sits on both the product review and the membership development committees for the National CRS Council. She was honored as Realtor of the Year for 2006 by the Anchorage Board of Realtors. Pfleiger has been in the real estate business since 1980. She holds a bachelor's degree in business administration with a minor in real estate, an associate broker license, and CRS and GRI designations. She specializes in residential real estate and corporate relocation to Anchorage and has represented both business owners in commercial real estate sales and new construction builders.


  Martin    
John Martin of Alaska Mortgage Solutions has earned the Certified Mortgage Consultant designation from the National Association of Mortgage Brokers. According to Martin, he is the first in Alaska to receive the designation. Martin has been associated with the real estate industry since 1977, is a founding member and past president of the Alaska Association of Mortgage Brokers, and is a member of the Anchorage Predatory Lending Task Force. To earn the CMC designation, a candidate must meet certain requirements regarding industry experience and knowledge, and must pass a rigorous examination.


  Pineda    
Elvie Pineda has been promoted to branch manager of Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union's City Hall Branch in Anchorage. As branch manager, she is responsible for fostering a positive sales and service environment at the branch, including member transactions, consumer loans, new account openings and member problem resolution. Pineda brings extensive experience in the loan and operations facets of the industry to her new position. She has been at Denali Alaskan for more than four years, most recently working as a member business lending loan officer. She had also worked in the credit union's indirect loan department and as a branch specialist. Prior to joining Denali Alaskan in 2002, Pineda worked for more than 11 years at the Guam branch of First Commercial Bank. Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union is the third largest credit union in Alaska, with more than 47,000 members and assets in excess of $340 million. The credit union's 10 branches are located in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau and Wasilla.


  Pillifant    
RIM Design LLC has announced that space planner Marya Pillifant has joined its staff. Pillifant brings four years of design experience to the firm and has a background in space planning and construction. Currently, Pillifant is working on a number of space planning projects at RIM Design. She received a bachelor's of degree in international studies from the University of Wyoming and a certificate in political studies from the Universite d'Aix-Marseilles, France. RIM Design has been providing Alaska with award-winning interior design and space planning services since 1978.

Dwayne Peeples and Sam Edwards were named deputy commissioners for the Alaska Department of Corrections. Peeples, of Juneau, is deputy commissioner for administrative services, and Edwards, of Wasilla, was named deputy commissioner for operations. Peeples, who recently retired as health care services director for the Department of Health and Social Services, will serve as legislative liaison while overseeing administrative services, recruitment and inmate health care. Peeples is a past director of administrative services for the department, and holds a degree in public administration from Seattle University. Edwards, a veteran with the department, will oversee all facilities and probation/parole field offices.

Stephanie Madsen, chairman of the North Pacific Fishery Management Council, is the new executive director of the At-Sea Processors Association, which represents Trident Seafoods and six other catcher/processor firms. Madsen began her new job Jan. 1, replacing retired Alaska Fish and Game Commissioner Kevin Duffy, who has served as executive director since January 2005. Since 1999, Madsen has served as vice president of the Pacific Seafood Processors Association, which represents onshore processors Peter Pan Seafoods, Unisea Seafoods, Westward Seafoods and Alyeska Seafoods. Prior to joining PSPA, Madsen represented onshore seafood processors in Dutch Harbor, where she lived for 18 years.
