Perdue's Jewelry, located in Fairbanks, has hired jewelers Drew Deighton and John Stewart. Deighton and Stewart are experienced jewelers specializing in all types of jewelry manufacturing and repair. Deighton and Stewart will use traditional methods and contemporary design while using Alaska materials to design and manufacture jewelry for Perdue's Jewelry.

Merrie Ellis, loan originator at First National Bank, was chosen 2001 Affiliate of the Year by the Anchorage Board of Realtors. Ellis was recognized for her achievements and contribution to the board. Ellis received the honor at the Annual Realtor and Affiliate Auction in November.

LaMothe
Tonya LaMothe has joined Brady & Co. as quality assurance manager. LaMothe has 15 years commercial insurance experience as an underwriter and servicing agent.

Gov. Tony Knowles has appointed William "Chip" Dennerlein as director of the Division of Habitat in the Department of Fish and Game. Dennerlein has more than 25 years of experience working with Alaska communities, private businesses, Native corporations, conservation groups and federal and state agencies on natural resource issues. Dennerlein most recently served as Alaska regional director for the National Parks Conservation Association. Dennerlein worked as special assistant in the Department of Natural Resources during former Gov. Jay Hammond's administration and was later appointed director of State Parks. Dennerlein served as executive manager of public services and intergovernmental affairs for the Municipality of Anchorage during Knowles' two terms as mayor.

The Anchorage Home Builders Association has recognized Bob Lutje, Doug Daniels, Pat Reilly and Betty Lutje for outstanding achievement and dedication to their profession during 2001. Bob Lutje of Timberline Homes Inc. was chosen 2001 Builder of the Year. Daniels of Anchorage Refuse Inc. was selected 2001 Associate Member of the Year. Reilly of Rainproof Roofing received the 2001 Subcontractor of the Year award. Betty Lutje was presented the 2001 Volunteer of the Year. The four members of AHBA received the recognition at the association's 2001 Christmas banquet held recently.

Gabbert
Weiss
Paul F. Gabbert has been hired by F. Robert Bell & Associates and CMH Consultants as senior engineer. Gabbert, a professional engineer, will be responsible for civil design/engineering and construction administration/ inspection. Gabbert has 15 years of professional engineering experience in Alaska. Gabbert has served as project engineer and manager for the implementation of capital improvement projects for the Alaska Department of Transportation, Public Facilities Department, Alaska Village Safe Water projects and Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. Andrew J. Weiss has been hired as a mechanical engineer. Weiss, a professional engineer, will be responsible for mechanical design and engineering and construction administration/inspection. Weiss has served as a mechanical design engineer, an analyst, programmer and director of engineering during his career.

The Internal Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior has selected Jim Gardner as co-recipient of the 2002 Wager Medal. Gardner is an assistant professor of volcanology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, operates the Experimental Petrology Laboratory and has been a faculty member of UAF's Department of Geology and Geophysics since 1998. The medal is presented once every four years to individuals under age 40 who have made outstanding contributions to the study of volcanic rocks.

Hoversten
Huffman
The Federal Aviation Administration has appointed Claudia Hoversten manager of the Logistics Division in the Alaska Region. Hoversten has been employed by the FAA for 28 years. Hoversten has held positions in air traffic control, airway facilities, budget and finance, and administrative support. Hoversten will supervise real estate, property, purchasing and contracting functions. Bryon K. Huffman has joined the FAA Alaska Region as airports division manager. Huffman will lead a staff of 18 people in providing federal oversight for airport capital improvements in the state as well as overseeing safety and certification at federally regulated airports in Alaska. Huffman spent the last 18 months working at the Flight Training Center for United Airlines in Denver.

Colleen Stephens has been appointed general manager of Prince William Sound Cruises and Tours following the retirement of her father Stan Stephens as president. Colleen Stephens originally joined the family-run business by selling tickets at age 7. In 1995 Stephens worked with the company's sales staff and eventually managed part of the operations.
