Juneau-based Alaskan Brewing Co. was recently award a safety designation from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program recognizes small employers who maintain top-notch workplace safety and health programs and have workplace illness and injurey rates that are below national averages in their industry classification. The program is administered in Alaska by the state's Occupational Health Safety section. This is Alaskan Brewing's third SHARP designation and exempts the company from generally scheduled state health and safety inspections through Dec. 9, 2007. The company also has reduced workers' compensation rates as a result of its participation in the program. There are only 10 other SHARP sites in the state and 12,000 nationwide.
