ACVB inducted into M&C Hall of Fame
The Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau was inducted into the 2005 M&C (Meetings and Conventions) Magazine Hall of Fame. To be inducted into the M&C Hall of Fame, convention and visitors bureaus must receive Gold Service Awards for 12 or more years. The ACVB has won the Gold Service Award annually since 1995 and in 1993.
ACVB's induction into the Hall of Fame demonstrates a level of excellence in service. For the Gold Service Award, CVBs are judged by magazine readers on a number of factors, including professionalism of staff, support on hotel and site inspections, assistance with ground transportation planning, guidance on local attractions, liaison with local venders and services, and other aspects that contribute to a successful meeting.
Conventions are an important aspect of the Anchorage economy and will generate an estimated economic impact of $83.1 million by the end of 2005. Upcoming conventions booked in 2005 include the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs scheduled for October 2007 (estimated economic impact: $578,700), the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in September 2008 (E.E.I: $587,671), the Western Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators in April 2009 (E.E.I: $663,457), the Western States Communication Association in March 2010 (E.E.I: $616,191) and the Aerospace Medical Association in May 2011 (E.E.I: $1.8 million). These five conventions alone will produce an estimated economic impact of $4.2 million for the local economy.
The Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau's mission is to attract and serve visitors to the municipality of Anchorage. ACVB's marketing functions are funded by half of the bed tax collected by the lodging association. The other half goes to the municipality's general fund. ACVB receives no state or federal funds.
