The Anchorage Chamber of Commerce announced the 16 finalists for the 2013 Gold Pan Awards in four categories listed below. Able Body Shop, Rene Haag (Blaine’s Art Supply), Leverette Hoover (Siemens Industry) and Peter Mulcahy (URS Corp.) are finalists in the Distinguished Community Service by an Individual, Organization or Small Business category. Fred Meyer, Kendall Auto Group, Millennium Alaskan Hotel and Neeser Inc.
are finalists in the Distinguished Community Service by a Large Business or Organization category. Cornerstone General Contractors, Green Alaska Solutions LLC, Northern Air Cargo and USTravel are finalists in the Business Excellence category. Nick Brorson (Sockeye Business Solutions), Ryan Cropper (Able Body Shop), Chris Dunn (Integrity Roofing & Windows) and Dr. Helena Wisniewski (University of Alaska Anchorage) are finalists in the Entrepreneurial Excellence category. The Volunteer of the Year Award will be announced at this year’s Gold Pan Awards Sept. 13 at the Dena’ina Center in Anchorage. Tickets for the 56th annual Gold Pan Awards are now on sale. Cost is $50 per member, $70 for non-members. Member tables of 20 for $500. Deadline to RSVP is by 5 p.m. Sept. 6.

AMC Engineers announced the promotion of Keith Confer to principal. Confer is an award winning electrical engineer with 19 years of design experience for public facilities throughout Alaska. He has received multiple lighting awards from the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America for his work on the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport C Concourse Expansion, the UAA/APU Consortium Library, and the ANC Terminal Connector. Confer has been with AMC since 1996 and has worked on a wide variety of projects across the state. He is a Registered Communications Distribution Designer, a certified Electrical Inspector by the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, and a Construction Specification Institute Certified Construction Documents Technologist. 

Gideon Garcia has joined CIRI Alaska Tourism Corporation as chief operating officer. Garcia has worked with Holland America Tours and HAP-Alaska/Yukon, based in Alaska, since 1997 and has held several positions with increasing responsibility. Having completed his master’s in business administration at the University of Fairbanks, he brings substantial experience managing departments with 500 seasonal employees and a proven leadership ability in operations to his leadership role at CATC. Roberta Caenepeel has joined CIRI Alaska Tourism as sales manager. Caenepeel has been selling CATC products for the past 11 years via Royal Celebrity Tours and more recently, Visit Anchorage. Knowing our organization so well, she is a perfect fit to represent Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge, Seward Windsong Lodge and Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge globally. CATC is the umbrella company for Alaska Heritage Tours, Kenai Fjords Tours, Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge, Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge, and Seward Windsong Lodge.

Lottie Michael, senior vice president and associate broker of Commercial Real Estate Alaska LLC, has been recognized and honored by the National Association of Realtors with REALTOR® Emeritus status at the 2013 Midyear Legislative Meetings and Trade Expo. Michael has maintained her membership in the National Association of Realtors for more than 40 years. She holds the NAR designation of Certified Commercial Investment Manager and is current president of the Alaska CCIM Chapter. Michael joined Commercial Real Estate Alaska LLC in December 2012 after many years with Bond, Stephens & Johnson. In 2012 Lottie receivied the YWCA Women of Achievement Award.

Troy A. Johnson has been named vice president of business development at Glacier Services Inc., an oil and gas professional services firm headquartered in Anchorage specializing in automation, instrumentation, and control systems. Of Aleut decent, Johnson most recently served as president of Doyon Emerald and CEO of the Aleut Corp. before joining GSI. As an Alaska registered professional engineer and with a master’s in business administration, Johnson brings more than 20 years of experience in the technical and commercial aspects of engineering consultation work to GSI.
