Wildfire closes Parks Highway near Nenana

FAIRBANKS (AP) — Nearly 30 miles of an Alaska highway was closed Wednesday night by a wildfire.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the Parks Highway between Fairbanks and Nenana was closed Wednesday night north of Nenana.

Alaska Division of Forestry spokesman Jim Schwarber says the closure went into effect after a wildfire broke a containment line and moved toward the highway.

The Alaska Department of Transportation website says the road is impassible because of poor visibility from smoke.
