Summit: Development of Native tourism on rise

A speaker at a tourism summit says strides are being made to develop rural Alaska Native tourism.

American Indian Alaska Native Tourism Association director Camille Ferguson was the keynote speaker at a summit held Wednesday through Friday in Anchorage.

Ferguson says Alaska is "making waves" in tourism.

Ferguson gave special credit to the Chickaloon Native Village and Chickaloon Native Village Council, which presented the summit at the Alaska Native Heritage Center.

Sessions at the summit focused topics including cultural program development, cultural tourism training and ways to provide authentic, culturally sensitive, experiences.
