The Fairbanks Convention and Visitors Bureau recently announced the election and appointments of its 2013 Board of Directors. Executive Officers are: Matt Atinkson, Chair, Northern Alaska Tour Company; Matt Divens, HAP Alaska-Yukon; Dustin Adams, Secretary, Regency Fairbanks Hotel; Paul Brown, Treasurer, Santa Claus House; and Buzzy Chiu, Past Chair, Bridgewater Hotel. Jackie Fernandez will be the new curator of collections at the Sheldon Jackson Museum beginning March 1. The museum was established by Rev. Dr. Sheldon Jackson and is the oldest in museums in Alaska. Fernandez is currently curator of the Sitka Historical Society Museum. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Mount Holyoke, and a Master of Fine Arts and a Master of Arts in museum studies from Tufts University. She has interned at various museums and non-profit organizations, both in the Lower 48 and Alaska, including a summer at the Alaska Museum of Natural History in Anchorage and work at the American Bald Eagle Foundation in Haines.
Lynne’ Doran has been named to the newly created position of Executive Director for Girdwood 2020. Girdwood 2020 is a community advocacy organization working with the Girdwood community and Alyeska Resort to improve infrastructure for Girdwood. In her role as executive director, Doran will work with the officers, directors and strategic partners of Girdwood 2020 to implement the group’s mission and strategic plan. Doran is a long time resident of Girdwood with significant experience in community project coordination and development. Doran is a graduate of the University of Minnesota in International Relations.

At the luncheon, one Anchorage ATHENA Society Award recipient will also be announced, as well as keynote speakers and updates from this year’s ATHENA Scholarship programs.The Anchorage ATHENA Society is a program of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce and a local chapter of ATHENA International, dedicated in encouraging the potential of women as valued members and leaders of the business community. There are more than 240 members of the Anchorage ATHENA Society to date.
