Alaska students recently had the opportunity to meet a true American icon. Former astronaut Buzz Aldrin spoke Jan. 25 at University of Alaska Anchorage to more than 100 students on behalf of the Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program about the importance of a quality science and mathematics education. Students of all ages from Southcentral Alaska, Bethel, Nome and Fairbanks filled the ANSEP building commons area and Aldrin answered their questions about his education and experiences as the second person to walk on the moon. “To have someone of Buzz’s caliber and stature convey the message of the importance of science and engineering is truly fantastic,” ANSEP COO and UAA alumnus Mike Bourdukofsky said.
