AFN moves to Fairbanks in 2013

FAIRBANKS (AP) — The Alaska Federation of Natives convention is returning to Fairbanks in 2013.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner ( says the organization's board voted Thursday to bring the organization's annual convention back to Fairbanks in October 2013.

In recent years, the state's largest gathering of Alaska Natives has been held in Anchorage.

The board's decision is good news for Fairbanks. Jeff Jacobsen, Fairbanks North Star Borough Mayor Luke Hopkins' chief of staff, says the convention gives the city the opportunity to showcase Interior Alaska to the rest of the state.
