Alaska teacher to be education fellow

A seventh grade teacher has been tapped to serve as an education fellow in Sen. Mark Begich's Washington office.

Begich's office says Scott Kluever of Eagle River was awarded the fellowship from the Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship Program, and is serving it through the U.S. Department of Energy. Over the next year, Kluever will help Begich's office with a focus on issues related to science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, education.

Begich says Kluever's teaching knowledge will be an asset in advancing the importance of STEM education in classrooms.

Kluever is a longtime teacher who has most recently taught seventh grade at Begich Middle School and has won accolades for his work.
