Cost Control Strategies for Benefit Plans
When I meet with employers about their benefit plans, every single one of them talks about how expensive it is and how it’s becoming more and more difficult to offer benefits to their employees. We all know that the rising cost of health care, the increased usage of health care and the aging of our population is increasing costs to a breaking point.
Some of this is out of their control. Some of it is in their control but they don’t even know it. For example, did you know that many people aren’t getting their regular health screenings? Not getting these screenings done can lead to much greater costs in the future. Remind employees how important this is and perhaps even reward them for getting it done. Find other cost containment strategies here.
Health care is no longer a plug and play program where you purchase the product once a year and then let it run itself. Employers need to be actively involved throughout the year in order to get control back. Maybe not much, but it’s a start.
