Alaska’s First Hackathon

AEDC is teaming up with the Municipality of Anchorage to host Alaska's first Hackathon June 15th-17th.  The purpose of this event is to encourage programmers and developers to use government and non-profit data sets to improve the community or solve an existing problem through data management and visualization.  This type of event has been very successful in other states through the efforts of organizations such as Code for America and TechCrunch Disrupt and we thought it was about time to let Alaskan programmers show what they can do as well!

We have had a great response from programmers in the community so far and have had to move the event from the Anchorage Community Land Trust Building to a larger venue in Rasmuson Hall at UAA. Participants will spend all day and night over a weekend designing, developing and pitching their projects to a panel of judges representing Alaska’s technology, entrepreneur and government communities.  The top projects will receive prizes that will assist them in getting their product out to the community.
