Brown bear suspected of break-ins killed
A large brown bear suspected of breaking into homes in an Anchorage neighborhood has been killed.
The Anchorage Daily News (http://is.gd/fkTPC2) says biologists with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game killed the bear Tuesday night.
However, an examination of the bear revealed that it is not the same bear that is suspected of raiding chicken coops and recently was shot and wounded by a homeowner. Biologists had initially thought the same bear was responsible for the break-ins and the raids.
Wildlife biologist believe that the dead bear is the one that damaged at least three garage doors and side doors in the Stuckagain Heights neighborhood in recent days.
They say October often brings a spike in bear activity before hibernation, but this is unusual behavior.
