Parnell chosen to lead governors' group

JUNEAU (AP) — Gov. Sean Parnell's office says he has been picked to chair the Outer Continental Shelf Governors Coalition.

The group includes the governors of Alabama, Alaska, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.

Parnell's office, in a news release, says the coalition, created in 2011, supports energy expansion through responsible resource development and advocates that offshore energy production be included in a national energy policy.

Parnell says developing America's resources, onshore and off-, is essential to achieving a more sustainable, independent energy future.
