Welcome to Hiring Our Heroes: Alaska Veterans Job Fair

About one in every ten Alaskans is a veteran. At 77,000, that’s more per capita than any other state in the nation. Alaska is also home to Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, Eielson Air Force Base, Clear Air Force Station, Fort Greely, Fort Wainwright, Coast Guard Integrated Support Command Kodiak, Marine Safety Unit Valdez and U.S. Coast Guard stations in Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka and Dutch Harbor.

Each year, the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development holds one of the largest job fairs in the nation for veterans, transitioning soldiers and military spouses. More than 100 employers and vendors will be at this year’s event on Friday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the University Center in Anchorage.

Our partners for the Alaska Veterans Job Fair are Morris Alaska Media Network, University Center and Furniture Alaska, Inc., University of Alaska Anchorage, Alaska Society for Human Resource Management, Anchorage Society for Human Resource Management, Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Princess Cruises and Tours, VETS and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

Training and employment services are available at the 22 Alaska Job Centers across the state, to help veterans and their spouses find meaningful employment, and to improve public-private sector coordination in local communities where veterans and their families are returning every day. The harsh reality is that many of our returning veterans are also eligible for vocational rehabilitation programs for those who are facing medical challenges.

Alaska employers can benefit by hiring veterans, who can offer skills, education, leadership and dedication learned during their military service.

Conscious of Health and Safety Standards Vets are cognizant of the importance of health and safety standards. This conscientiousness translates into the protection of self, others and property.

Hiring a veteran is good for business – and good for Alaska.
