Rep: Oil bill to be heard on parallel tracks
JUNEAU (AP) — A co-chair of the House Resources Committee expects to take up the governor's oil tax bill in tandem with the Senate.
Rep. Eric Feige says hearings will begin Feb. 11. That's when Senate Resources is expected to get the bill. A special Senate committee is currently holding hearings on the measure, with a goal of advancing it by Feb. 7.
Feige said the current plan is to have the bill move on parallel tracks in both chambers. He said he's optimistic about a bill emerging from this Legislature but said lawmakers must make sure it's the best bill possible.
He said at a news conference Friday if a good idea is proposed in his committee, it will be incorporated, regardless of whether it came from a majority or minority member.
