Tug hits rock, spills at least diesel fuel
ANCHORAGE (AP) — A tug vessel has leaked at least 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel into the Nushagak River after hitting a submerged rock in the water.
The Anchorage Daily News reports the accident happened early Wednesday just east of Dillingham.
State officials say the captain of the 100-foot Devon reported the collision and fuel tank damage about 1 a.m.
The tug had been towing a barge in the river.
There's been no report of impacts to wildlife.
The tug's owner will attempt to move the barge Thursday.
