Fire Island Wind sets lines

Contractors working for Fire Island Wind LLC have started construction of new onshore electrical transmission lines that will help connect a planned wind power project on Fire Island to the regional power grid. Work is underway now on lines in Conner’s Bog in Anchorage. In mid-spring construction crews will begin mobilization for construction of wind turbines and other facilities on Fire Island itself. A submarine electrical line will be laid this summer. The project is expected to produce electricity by next fall. Fire Island Wind LLC is a subsidiary of Cook Inlet Region Inc., an Anchorage-based Alaska Native regional corporation that owns land on Fire Island.
