Wind turbines arrive at Port of Anchorage
Three vessels — the M/V Muntgracht, the M/V Thorco Amber and the M/V Jasmine Scan — called on the Port of Anchorage earlier this month to offload wind turbines and other equipment coming from Tianchang, China, for the Cook Inlet Region Inc. Fire Island Wind Project. This is the first shipment of wind turbines to cross the docks at the Port of Anchorage. Tetra Tech, a sister company to The Delany Group, was the successful bidder to deliver 11 windmills for the CIRI Fire Island Wind Project. The CIRI project would be the first commercial-scale wind project in Alaska. This facility will consist of 1.6 megawatt wind turbines located three miles west of Anchorage on Fire Island. The Fire Island project will generate approximately 144,000 MW hours of electricity annually – enough to meet the needs of 17,000 households. The project will be built in phases over three years.
